Last night as I was making dinner, my mother-in-law happened to call when I was feeling a bit down about not being pregnant. She immediately knew something was wrong and asked if everything was alright and just hearing someone genuinely ask about my well-being made me burst into tears. She sympathized the best way she could but at one point I was uncontrollable. She let out a big sigh and said she was hesitant to share something…
Just a few weeks ago, she ran into a friend. This friend apparently has psychic abilities (believes everyone does too) and asked my Mother-In-Law how the baby is doing. To which my Mother-In-Law responded with, “what baby?” The friend went on to say that she sees a grandbaby (a girl) in our lives and that my Mother-In-Law would be a grandma in the “near future”.
I gasped because I didn’t know what to say. One, I’m Catholic and raised with the notion that psychics aren’t real. But what striked me as interesting is that just last month while my husband and I were vacationing in Paris, something similar happened. While we were walking around the Seine River, there was a tarot card/psychic reader. He gestured us to come over to him but we both shrugged and smiled a polite “no”. We had no other way but to pass by him because of the narrow streets, and as we were walking by he said “Baby girl. You’ll have a baby girl soon”. We didn’t say anything to each other and went about our travels.
Whether they were real prediction or not, it definitely lifted up my mood. Now, having been TTCing for 18 months, small things like this give me hope. Is it irrational? Maybe. Are they feeding us false hope? Maybe. At the end of the day, it’s not hurting anyone and it didn’t cost us any money. My husband and I talked about these two events last night and had a good chuckle. Coincidence is what we’re calling it. My MIL’s friend prob knew my Mother-In-Law is anxious to become a grandma and the Parisian man saw a happy couple and assumed that the next logical step for us is to become parents. As for the gender, 50/50 guess. It has to be either boy or girl.
Still, it’s fun. No?

I really hope for you that you came accorss two genuine psychics and that thay have predicted correctly.

I believe that most of them are just very good at taking educated guesses based on your age, looks, etc, and there’s nothing psychic about it at all.
However, I do believe that some of them can access “psychic” information, but as a Catholic, I don’t believe it comes from anything or anywhere I want to touch with a ten foot pole. I do think a lot of that has demonic influence, and while it can have an element of truth, it twists the people who use it. Whole thing freaks me out, actually. (Please don’t flame – not trying to hijack the thread!)
On the flip side, some people do receive messages from God as a way to answer the prayers of others, so in your shoes, I’d just be crossing my fingers and hoping it was divine inspiration and that a baby is on the way! All FX here for you!

I wouldnt think about it too much, but thats easier said than done. About 6 years ago my sister and I went to get a reading and i was amazed by what I was told. There were things that the psychic told me that I had never shared with anyone before, so that is a pretty dang good educated guess 😉 I think you have to be a believer, just like anything else. I for one am a believer of these abilities only because what I personally had witnessed. I still listen to my recording all the time just for the amazement of things she told me that would happen that have happened without me even knowing. THis was 6 years ago!
If i could suggest something, again, easier said than done. But try your hardest not to stress… you will get pregnant when the time is right. Try not to worry or stress because that will prevent you from what you want 🙂

I totally know what you mean. I said it in my post, I’m Catholic, so any time my parents discussed psychics, they talked about it in a way that instilled fear in me. Yes, educated guessing plays a ton with psychics. But I still get carded when I go out and I’m in my 30s. And I don’t wear my rings on vacation. They’re on the bigger side and I’m always afraid they’re going to get stolen or lost. So I don’t really know why the Parisian man guessed that we were ready to become parents.
I agree. I’m chalking up these readings as coincidence. I’m not stressing or thinking too much into it, but just thought I’d share with the board. I am stressed about TTCing but not about this. It’s hard to escape from TTC thoughts when it’s been a year and a half since I went off the pill…
If I do get pregnant soon, I wouldn’t attribute it to the readings. I’d contribute it to all the testings, medications and good timing.

Maybe it’s the magic of Paris 😉 Now that I believe in haha! Besides, they say Paris is the city of love so maybe he’s right…fx!
I hope you can find some fun things to keep you busy and keep your mind of TTC. It is hard to stop thinking about it…pretty sure it runs through my mind at least a few times a day, if not more.

Yeah, psychics are just good at reading people (I know a few who work pro doing it). You see a young couple in Paris, without kids, who aren’t french, odds are they’re on vacation or a honeymoon. You see an engagement or wedding ring on the girl’s hand. Blammo, prediction: you’ll be pregnant soon!

I get goosebumps when things like that happen, even if you should take it with a grain of salt 🙂

NowandLater: it is fun! hopefully you are pregnant very soon!

Meh I don’t believe in that stuff personally. I had in high school a reading done (mind you over 20 years ago now) and she said something about I will marry fast to man with dark brown hair. Well considering I didn’t get married until age of 37 that wasn’t fast. and my DH doesn’t have dark brown hair. They are pretty much phonies who just say things you want to hear.

If it gives you hope and bit if excitement, I say it’s harmless. As long as you are okay if these people were wrong. Like you said, you didn’t pay money for this info. Good luck to you and your husband!

I believe many/most of them are people who are merely good at reading body language cues, etc. I had a reading gifted to me by my Mother-In-Law, and the lady told me were would soon conceive. It actually freaked my husband out because he wasn’t ready for a baby. When we stated TTC about a year later, it ended up taking us over two years to conceive. I am currently twelve weeks pregnant, so it was over three years since from the time we were told we would “SOON” conceive. She also made no mention of any of the three family members who had passed that I had been hoping to hear from.

That being said, I do believe there are people out there who have a GOD-GIVEN psychic gift, (I don’t believe it’s satanic or of the dark arts or anything like that). My Mother-In-Law has had eerily accurate readings, stuff there is no way an educated guess could explain. I just think those with genuine abilities are few and far between.

Thanks ladies for your kind words. I posted my comment for fun since I’ve been consumed by TTC and all the seriousness that comes with it. Thank you for taking it lightly and for wishing us BFP soon. I’ve never believed in psychics but I thought it was very coincidental that my Mother-In-Law and we got similar “readings” that we didn’t request for. I’m not hung up on them and ready to move on. Meeting with my doctor this Thurs to check my progesterone level and Clomid plan.
