Chocolate fountains are really, really, really messy.

What is a cheese ball?  How do you eat it?  Is it like those little cheese puffs?  That is not very fancy.

You could do Mediterranean type stuff — hummus, tabouleh, pita, olives, etc.

@peachacid:  cheeseballs are a softball sized ball of cheese, usually rolled in nuts, and you spread it on crackers.

Since you are doing a pasta salad, you may want to do a potatoe salad as well.

Do chips and dip. I know it sounds tacky, just think of some of those fancy salsa’s or cheese dips that you can use with corn chips or even vegetable chips.

Ya, nix the pasta salad because then you’ll start to confuse folks.  I would add pita chips and some sort of sour cream dip (see anything by Giada at Home), maybe some bruschetta, you can do roast beef pinrolls with pesto paste mixed in with cream cheese (this makes me very popular during the holidays), and maybe a salmon and dill app of some sort.  All of these (to me) are fun and delish to include and really knock out guests versus the standard cheese and crackers.  And I would probably lose the cheese ball and sub with a couple hunks of nice smoked havarti and parmasan because they go way better with cocktails, although I am assuming you’re having libations.

How is pasta salad a finger food? Does this mean you will have plates and utensils?

Finger food blue cheese stuffed dates

Cold sliders of chicken salad

toothpick skewers of cherry tomato, basil leaf, artichoke heart and mozzerella

crustini with ricotta, tomato slice and peach slice

chive cream cheese stuffed cucumber (scoop out seeds, stuff the whole things, chill and slice)

I second the above idea for chips and dip. But get all sorts of fancy toppings. maybe some tapenade, (different types of salsa), etc.

What about a Caprese salad (fresh mozzerella and tomatoes)? That is super yummy and very refreshing!

I just remembered this suuuuper bomb appetizer I had at a party once.  It was a curry chicken salad on an endive leaf.  Amaze-balls and super beautiful.  Also, what about shrimp cocktail?  You can buy them premade at a costco for pretty cheap.
