@thejucheidea:  Our honeymoon was in Thailand, but I just wanted to say that your plans sound great! Stockholm is really beautiful and romantic, especially the Gamla Stan (old town) area.

Make sure you try gravad lax (raw spiced salmon), it’s a really good Scandinavian specialty. It’s like lox, but a bit different.

@thejucheidea:  it wasn’t cold per say.  pants and long sleeves during the day, and sweaters in the evenings. Darling Husband sometimes wore short sleeves.

we toured Italy in October.

We started in the north where it was chillier and worked our way south where it was a little warmer.

Sitting on a beach for a week was not our ideal honeymoon.  We wanted to be active.

We had an amazing time in Italy.  The weather was perfect for us.

@thejucheidea:  That sounds amazing!  What a cool trip!!

Our honeymoon was a road trip through New England in October… mostly it wasn’t cold, just cool, but the first two nights we camped in New Hampshire and it was freezing, especially at night (being in a tent didn’t help).  After that it was hotels/B&Bs for us!

@thejucheidea:  Funny I was going to suggest Scandinavia as well as Iceland. I’ve also heard if you book flight’s through Iceland they seem to be cheaper and you can do a 2-3 day layover with some awesome packages in Iceland. I think their economy is hurting.

My grandpa was from Bergen and my Grandmother from Oslo, they’re very Norwegian and have kept our heritage strong lol! My brother and SIL just visited and said it was some of the most beautiful country they’ve ever seen. I’m sure you know though that it’s REALLLY expensive.  So save up a good chunk of spending money 🙂

@thejucheidea:  So jealous of your honeymoon plans! I would love to go to Europe again and finally visit the Scandinavian countries! I’ve wanted to visit Sweden especially after seeing the Millenium Trilogy movies.

Since I’ll be in the middle of doing my Masters degree, the Fiance and I are planning on doing a minimoon in NZ and going to the South Island to either Queenstown or Wanaka. Our wedding will be in winter so I’ve looking forward to hitting the snow and learning to ski or snowboard lol.

We’re spending a week in Telluride, CO for our wedding. Everyone but my soon-to-be brothers in law will leave on Sunday, so Sunday through Tuesday will be the beginning of our minimoon. We probably will hang out with them a bit, but we have some special things planned for just the two of us. After that, we’re going to Steamboat, CO to for 6 more days.

We decided to do the honeymoon this way for several reasons:

*Since we’ll spend a week in Telluride for the wedding, we don’t have enough time to go on a major vacation after that.

*We love skiing!

*We’ve never skied Steamboat, and we have 6 free ski days there on our season pass.

*We’re both *hopefully* finishing our PhDs in the next year, and we want to take a long, international trip when we finish school, so we decided to keep this trip fairly inexpensive.

*After paying for about half of the wedding ourselves, out of our grad student stipends, we don’t have any money left to do more! We’ll start saving for our huge graduation trip when we get back.

My Fiance did not want a warm weather honeymoon. So we’re going to Victoria, B.C. in the spring. Not sure if that counts, but it certainly is not Hawaii. We wanted to avoid the heat and humidity, and enjoy a cool breeze off the seashore (we live on the coast).

we haven’t planned a honeymoon yet per se but we love to travel and basically try to go to a new country every year – Iceland was last year in Nov (it was unseasonably cold at that time, even for icelanders!) and we had a blast!! loved it. i wish i could have gone to the south and done the glaciers like you will be doing but we went during the Airwaves festival so there was lots of great bands, music events, culture in the capital city and things were all a bit different, for instance there was a famous DJ party at Blue Lagoon when we went…we sadly weren’t able to see the northern lights on any of the nights bc of weather conditions but we did do ATV’ing in volcanic fields, definitely enjoyed the geysers and waterfall sightseeing, and ate some crazy food (reindeer burgers, rotten shark, puffin). They have really great food and restaurants in Reykjavik, if you are spending any time there, my recs are: Grillmarkaðurinn. And Fish Company was interesting/eclectic. We stayed at Hotel Odinsve and their restaurant is nice too. Cafe Loki was my favorite for icelandic brunch/lunch – its just my type of food, so I went like 2-3x. Cafe babalulu was cute. Kex is uber hip for a drink and the laidback scene. Also after nightlife, the famous lambdogs at Baejarins Beztu Pylsur.
