I applied for a customer service job that seems semi laid back. It’s an animal company and even asked to include a picture of your pet with your resume. When submitting the application online on the final screen where it says thank you it mentioned linking up with their staff on LinkedIn. I didn’t have an account at the time so I made one just for this purpose. I’ve found the recruiting staff member for the company, but what should I say? I’ve always heard cold calling/messaging is quite obnoxious so I’m afraid to go overboard. I applied 7 days ago.

@Lava: I don’t know what Cold messageing is, but I would call them directly and say something along the lines of ” hi, I am Lava and I am calling in regards to the status of my resueme”. a week out isnt that bad of a time frame to do that.

With Linked in, i definitely discourage people from senting the form request if you don’t know them.
I usually add them with a message of “Hi X, I saw you work at X Company. I’m looking at some opportunities with them, but would love the chance to hear from a current employee. Can I ask you a few questions?”
then, when they respond, keep the questions short and specific. Seriously, no more than 2-3.
