The only thing I have ever used for one is abreva, and it kept it from erupting into a giant sore. I’m not sure if it’s OK for pregnancy though, as I haven’t had that issue come up.
I second everything that @mrsscribbles: said. I think it’s easy to think of “natural” things as being safe, but they may not be held to strict standards.

So funny that I just saw this thread. I got a cold sore the other day during a battle with a bad cold. Generally that is when I get mine. I used to get them on my lip, and very infrequently, like not even once a year. This time I have one on my face between my lip and my nose. It’s the second time I’ve gotten one in this exact spot. That last time was a little over a year ago. I have been using hydrogen peroxide on it to clean it and then a topical ointment called Campho. It seems to have dried it out very quickly. Burns a little bit when applied though. Only $4 at Walmart.
