Am crunched for time – our wedding is this weekend, and I have 3 hours to decide if we are getting a tent for our outdoor venue or just heaters. Our high for the day is 74 – perfect weather, and it will be about that temperature for our ceremony at 3:30 in the afternoon. The temperature is going to drop to about 67 when the sun sets at about 5:30. At 7pm it will be 60, 8pm 58, and 9pm 56 – we are exiting at about 8:45/9pm. If we don’t have a tent, we are going to have 15 or so of those really nice patio heaters. But I’m not sure if heaters are enough for ~2 hours of below 60 degrees outside. There will be dancing, alcohol, hothands gel packs, I have blanket favors, and about 115 people. For reference – we are in Texas.

I think just heaters will be fine, however, I’m from WI so the temperatures are nothing compared to here. lol! I would be outside without a jacket in above 50 weather!

I’m from MN, so that sounds like perfect weather! However, with you being in TX, people may be cold (still baffles me lol)

Also from MN, sounds great! I think people will be fine with heaters and blankets.

The outdoor heaters will be fine!

I’ve been to much colder weddings with nothing at all, and I would’ve killed for some patio heaters. At that point people will have been dancing and drinking, so I’m sure heaters are more than adequate, and will look much nicer.

In Texas as well, I think heaters will be okay.

Patio heaters are bad for the environment. If that matters to you, use a tent.

Heaters plus blanket favors would be really lovely to me. Unless you get hit with wind this is basically perfect. So long as guests know it’s outdoors so they bring a jacket, particularly for older guests that might chill more easily.

I’ from Canada, and we’d be in shorts in that kind of weather!

Texas bee here too. As long as its not windy I think the heaters will be fine since you have the blankets and hand warmer packs.

We’re having similar weather where I live and I think heaters would be fine!! We’ve been outdoors enjoying this weather, but it is nice to have heaters to go to if someone gets chilled. You sound very prepared for the weather!

Thank you everyone! I just wanted to write a quick update – things became really crazy after this post. We ended up forgoing the tent in favor of heaters.
Our day ended up being 75 degrees, with alot of wind…with temperatures dropping to about 65 with alot of wind. And…the heaters were a total bust. The company delivered them in broken condition so they weren’t functioning and the tops were actually flying off. Incredibly, even though they weren’t able to come and fix them (and the driver even told my DOC he knew they were broken and explained exactly how when she called him), I had to fight tooth and nail to get a full refund.
So, what that means is – it was cold lol. However, my DOC still said the tent wouldn’t have been ideal, because with the temperature just not being that cold, we would have been sweating in the tent and would have had to open the walls and that would have created a severe wind tunnel. Just in case this helps anyone else.
I was super concerned about everyone, and my parents left on the early shuttle because my mom was cold (which was a bummer), and 2 relatives got sick, but 98% of the guests said it was absolutely perfect and beautiful, and they all cuddled up with blankets and drank and danced. Our venue also did have a house, which while too small for the entire wedding, could still fit about 80 people standing, and the owner had a fire going for those who were really cold. So – all was good!
