In my mind, dark purple goes really well with…
other jewel tones (dark red, dark blue, dark green)
blues
pinks
reds
white and silver
sometimes brown

Purple is one of those colors that’s pretty easy to play around with. Take a swatch of dark purple fabric, and just go around all day holding it up to stuff. You might find a combo that suprizes you!

i second jewel tones (pair the purple with a rich blue, red, and maybe green). it’s really a very versatile color so you could go so many ways with it.

haha i had to switch our planned date because it falls on a huge game day! glad i checked next year’s calendar… if you’re not doing “LSU purple” then it could still work. you’re pairing it with green so it’s not like people are going to automatically assume you had an LSU theme. maybe choose a purple with more of a red undertone or something? it really depends on what kind of a feel you’re going for because we could literally give you any color combo we like. check the knot or http://theperfectpalette.blogspot.com/ for inspiration boards if you don’t have a theme in mind yet

I would just add another jewel tone along with the purple maybe a deep blue or green? Then you could use gold and silver accents and it would be far from a school pep rally even though there would be purple. 🙂

Would you consider making purple the accent color so it isn’t as “in your face”?

My finace and I are doing school colors because we are both huge Iowa Hawkeye fans!….so our colors are black & gold… and if you have seen Hawkeye gold, it’s really GOLDish yellow…. so we are toning that down.  So it’ll be black & light champagne gold.  If you can just alter your colors a bit, you should be good to go 🙂

We ended up with crimson and cream, our alma mater colors, but it’s because that’s what we loved.  If you love those colors and all, there’s no reason why you can’t go with it.  I do agree that emerald, gold, and silver all look great with deep purple, but this isn’t a day where you should shy away from what you really want just because it might be “too this” or “too that”.

@soonerpsych: I love your color choice…but I guess I am a little biased since I am currently going to school there. Wink

We are doing pumpkin plum and charcoal!   Mainly the pumpkin and charcoal with plum accents….

I love the jewel tones together though – like a purple and scarlet red, or purple, light green, and bronze?
