Hi fellow bees! You have probably seen me lurking around hidding behind corners, but throwing my two cents in sometimes. I haven’t been on here in a while though, for reasons not related to this topic, so onward.
I was originally planning on yellow, blue and gray. (I have even started buying decorations). We have booked the Reception hall, and it has wood paneling for the walls. In the center of the wall, from about 3 foot from the floor to about 7 foot from the floor, a a flat wood something or other, painted bright yellow, trimed with more wood, painted blue. I’m talking primary colors here. There is also wood accent pieces that go from floor to ceiling about every 10 feet painted blue. My fi was very hard set on this venue.
The problem? yellow, blue and gray are navy colors- he informed me. He is airforce. Navy colors are an absolute hard NO. I’m racking my brain on what colors to use, without the background overwhelming my wedding party or myself in the photographs. I thought of using light blue dresses for BMs. What do ya think? and just do blue and yellow? or blue, yellow and fushia? or go monocromatic with blue? Also, it’s a county wedding, and while alot of you may not like the idea of cowboy boots with dresses, we are doing it. I was oringionally thinking light yellow dresses with gray boots. Now I don’t know what to do. Black boots? Brown boots? I know its ultimately my decision, but my brainstorming isn’t working too well on this one! and I haven’t alot of time now to pick out dresses!

Do you have any pictures of the venue? It might be easier for people to chip in if they could see the venue.
Also, since your wedding is in October, have you considered fall colours? Apple reds, deep purples, rich greens, maybe a hint of orange? At least it would be consistent with nature!
In terms of bridesmaid dresses, I would suggest picking colours based on the shape and skin tone of the ladies. I was set on royal blue because of my wedding theme, but if you’re not set on a colour, confer with them! I would appreciate that as a bridesmaid. The colour for the dress might help determine the colour of the boots, as well.

So the walls have blue and yellow on them, and you want to include those without doing the navy blue/yellow/grey thing?
I love just blue and yellow!

Unfortunately, I have no pictures of the venue- it was hard to get in, the manager was on vacation, ect, ect, and when we did look at it, it was a suprise, we were already out, and I did not have my camera. We were visiting my fiance’s family out of state when his mom convinced fiance to have the wedding there (13 hour drive, mind you). I could write a whole page about it, but I’ll try to spare you. So we basicly had one week, if I wanted to actually see with my own eyes what anything would look like. We picked the chapel, reception venue, minister, cake, and caterors. The stress of it all is showing up on my face now! I have a picture of the chapel, but not the venue.
I have to stay away from gray- that would make it Navy’s colors. So I am now thinking a Sunflower theme. yellows and oranges with blue. Fi will be in his dress blues. Do something rustic but elegant. And pray that in the pictures it doesn’t look like your trying to take a picture of the wall and the people just got in the way! lol. You guys, these walls are LOUD! lol. A talented photograper might be needed. In the mist of argueing over that necessity of that one with fi.
Here’s a picture of a “sunflower blue bouquet” from Artfire to give you an idea of the color combo I’m thinking. Just trying to incororate the walls into the wedding decor.

I agree… the yellow, blue and orange sunflower theme would be lovely.
Is there anyway you can add draping to hide the walls?

Honestly I don’t think anyone will think of “navy” just because you use blue, yellow, and gray. Almost every color combination could be some school or teams colors. It’s only obvious if you pull into that and use a mascot in your decoration! I would never see blue dresses, yellow flowers, and some grays and think “Ah! That’s the navy!”
But as others have said, if you wish to change it I think blue and orange or blue and bright green look lovely together. Or you could go with golds and naturals and blue to play up the woodwork. But I actually love navy blue as a nice dark color for Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses.

I love the blue, yellow and orange! Thank you guys, er gals, so much for so many wonderful ideas! having to pull a “do-over” with 5 months to go has been stress-full. I could drap the walls, but that is alot of work, and I would rather try to work with it first. As for the gray, I had picked the colors, and everything else while fi was deployed. I had asked him if he wanted to have any input, and he said “no, he doesn’t want to be bothered with frivious things, and anything I pick will be fine.” …he lied. LOL. I tried to tell him that no one would think we were using a “navy” theme for our wedding, with his reaction, you would’ve thought I was trying to talk him into wearing poka dots! At least he is now excited, and it is his wedding, too. I do remind him periodicly that it’s not too late for my origional idea- to elope!

thank you, so much really. I was freaking out. My brainstorming wasn’t working due to my freaking out. I needed to know, that I can still pull this together, even from out of state. All your comments let me know, .. yeah, I got this.
