My fiance’s favorite color is red – bright apple, fire engine red.
I like red myself for some things, but I think it is such a strong color I’m not sure I want it for one of our wedding colors or how to pick colors that go with it. I’m also a redhead (bright!) and so I don’t feel like fire engine red compliments me that much (I’ll be wearing white/ivory, but you know with draperies, linens, bridesmade dresses, etc).
For my part, I was thinking maybe a couple different blues and a neutral or two or something like that for the wedding. I like blues a lot myself – cornflower or teal, but I don’t like teal with red or cornflower with red together (no offense if those are your favorites!). I do like purples as well, and greens if they are not too dark.
Fiance keeps saying he likes red. And to coordinate with it – he also likes red (hopefully he was joking about that but since I can’t figure out a scheme maybe it would just be red, lol)
What kind of color schemes that include red can you guys recommend?

We’re going with sunset roses as our major decorations. I like the palette you get from these: gold, orange, magenta, and red, with a touch of green.

You can give him red as an accent color using only hits of red here and there.
Have you tried looking at the color palettes on http://www.theperfectpalette.com ?
You can click on any color ( including red) and see a number of palettes using that color.

I know you said you don’t like red and teal, but thats what we’re doing. I figured I would post my board so you can visualize it better.
ETA: The red won’t be used too much since there is so much red in the venue. The girls will be in teal with red or white flowers. The guys will be in silver. Fiance might be in red. Our centerpieces are probably going to be candles, maybe with teal accents. We’re also going to have a decent amount of black with the guy’s tuxes and the lace sashes on the girls.

We are using red as an accent. Our wedding is February 16th – and that’s way too close to Valentine’s day so I don’t want to go all “red” out. My girls’ dresses are black with a red sash. Our flowers are going to have different colors of reds and purple too. Guys’ tuxs have a matching red tie. Fiance loves red but thinks the accent is pretty cool.

I am just using apple red and white, with touches of silver here and there. Christmas-y, i know!

@Jennlee: My daughter loves red and her hubby-to-be likes blue. Very difficult. We have used red as an accent, red roses for the bride’s bouquet, but a mix of red, pinks and ivory for the flowergirls. Flowergirls in pale blue. Tiny red roses on the name cards, menu etc. but off white linens with pale blue chair sashes over off-white chair covers. The red is the ‘pop’ only. But I will wear red as well as my youngest grand daughter. The boys are in navy blue, off white shirts with a red tie.

Maybe blush pink, gold and red? pick a sloghtly toned down red, like david’s bridal apple.

Check out the colors at this wedding, it’s sooo festive and playful:
I second the PP about The Perfect Palette – that site was super helpful when we were picking our “color scheme!”

We’re going with red, black, and silver. It’s a little bold for some people though.

I had red (officially more of a cranberry), blue (tealish/aqua) and grey for my wedding. Not one color was dominate, (I supose there was blue in the decor more that anything), so I think all of the colors balanced well without one being overwelming. I don’t have my pro pics back yet, but here is a link to my blog posting.

@Sugaree: We are too!
Red is also my FI’s favorite color (and his mothers- ugh!) and thought I really didn’t want to use it, I kind of had to. So, there is no red in my ceremony at all. The cocktail hour is ALL red with black accents- think more Moroccan red rather than fire engine red. The linens will be red, lights, etc. The reception is going to have emphasis on the black, white and silver. Our centerpeices will be big balls of red roses.
It is a hard balance because our wedding is so close to Christmas and we do not want a Christmas look at all.

I love red and mint for a summer wedding!
