My fiance and I are planning on having a carnival-like theme for the reception. Basically, we’re getting rid of our colors for it and just using them all. We’re looking for something bright, colorful, and fun.
So far, the biggest issue has been the centerpieces. I would love to incorporate some scrapbook paper flowers that I’ve found, but other than that, I have no ideas. I’m not much for floral centerpieces and I’ve considered candles, but have decided that it may not be the best option, though I’m still open to it.
I would love to find something that is crafty and diy if possible, but not difficult to put together.

They’re a little bit pricey, but I love these circus tent boxes: http://www.fancyflours.com/cgi-bin/fancyflours/5051-ES-CTB-1.html
Maybe you could use those along with some tea lights with glass holders of various bright colors.
This carousel is cool too, but only 4": http://www.thinkfasttoys.com/product.php?productid=23897
The carousel animals come in several varieties of species: http://www.atomicmall.com/view.php?id=393493
Also, I think this is just ridiculously cool, but I love old metal toys: http://www.espplusnc.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ESP&Product_Code=IP08258
I don’t know if this is what you mean by carnival theme, but I’m getting kind of excited looking at the possibilities. I would think that you could maybe make something like those circus tent boxes yourself.

I absolutely adore the circus tent boxes and the second carousel. And yes, I was kind of hoping to stay within the realm of an actual carnival.
Something carnival-like that I’ve also considered would be a ferris wheel (a candle holder or for the extra cupcakes for the cupcake wedding cake), but I honestly wouldn’t even know where to look for something like that.
Your suggestions are wonderful. Thank you so much!

We are having our wedding at a seaside amusement park but decided to go with beach elegance. I did think about doing an amusement park theme… here’s one link.
