I don’t think there’s a hard and fast rule regarding this.  However, IMO, it makes for a more cohesive feel for the whole wedding.  However, it’s YOUR wedding, so do what makes you happy!

I think you can be very creative with the Save-The-Date Cards. Usually though, they contain one or more of the colors of the wedding to tie it all together but I don’t believe that is a standard rule. Mine matched the invites but if I did things over with I would have changed them up a bit.

no way jose!!

We did our save the dates on clear vellum paper with pink envelopes. Our invitations are going to be something completely different.  I’m not very traditional… though!

If you want them to be blue and white and your colours are something totally different then I say go for it. Think about this, are your guests really going to look at your Save-The-Date Cards and your invites together and shake their heads and mutter to themselves, “well she’s a nice girl but she didn’t match the STD colours to the invite colours which are the wedding colours”? Of course not! You do whatever you feel! 🙂

Personally, I think the should.  i dont think they have to, but they should.  I love that our save the dates are a more playful version of our invitations – they set the tone for what can be expected of the invtaiton and wedding itself.  Like @candy said, it creates an overal cohisive look.

I don’t think so! I think that if you want to do something a little different, the save the dates are able to be that something. The invitation will set the tone for the wedding, but the save the date are able to be more playful.

I did something classic and stayed with the colors of my wedding. But if I had the money I may have done something different.
