@AChristy2009: I think you are over thinking. You say I’m thinking black or yellow with a sash.

[Aargh it ate my post] note to self must copy first before posting. lol

Anyway what I said was, was something along the lines of; Do your research first by looking on Google images of the colours you’d ike for bridesmaid dresses and everything else for that matter and put them into PowerPoint for example to create an inspiration board. Some things may change from this original vision but that’s fine, at least you’ve done your research and tried things out. With groomsmen’s shirts, my dress is ivory but have bought white shirts, well it says white on the label, but they’re probably more ivory, the point is it doesn’t matter it depends on what you like. It will all come together. My advice is don’t be too specific on what you want otherwise you wont find it.

Our colors are also white, black and yellow. i had the hardest time choosing until we decided on a flower (sunflower) and kind of went from there. I agree with Prewitt….do up an inspiration board and be open to changing your ideas. My bridesmaids were originally going to be in yellow dresses, but we then changed to black.

And I’m zero help with the groomsmen attire…I’m still on my FI’s case to pick what he wants to wear!! I’m guessing they will go with black suits, white shirt with a yellow tie.

I think using all the colors you mentioned/originally planned will be very nice.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Going with an ivory colored dress definitely doesn’t elminate the option of white elsewhere.  Especially when it comes to tuxedo shirts.  Depending on where you buy/rent the tuxes from, “white” may end up being a relative term anyway.  ๐Ÿ™‚

And in regards to the bridal party dresses…have you found a style/design you’re thinking of going with?  I’d say seek that out first, and once you find a style you really like, decide if it would look nice with a sash/without/what kinds of color accents could be added.  I think the more you start to pick out little details here and there, the mre it’ll all fall nicely into place.  ๐Ÿ™‚

And @missbeachbum:, using a sunflower is such a cool idea as a way to bring it all together.

I think it’s fine to use white and ivory together as long as the white is not a crisp, true white.  If the white is more eggshell color, everything will flow nicely ๐Ÿ™‚

One thing you need to know is your dress will look anywhere from true white to off white to ivory in your pictures depending on the lighting.  So the color of your dress really won’t make a huge difference in what you want for your colors. Go with what you want, and don’t worry about it. It’s going to look beautiful in the pictures no matter what.

Here are some pictures from my wedding to show how different the color of my dress looked in different pictures. The color of my dres was ivory…

Here it looks bright white:

Here it looks a little more ivory:

@judithsr: Thank you! Sunflowers are also inexpensive and easy to grow….so hoping that will cut costs!

I am in LOVE with this picture and our reception will (try) to look somewhat like it but with taller arrangements.
