Honestly, if you’re concerned about a gemstone ring not feeling like an engagement/wedding ring, it might not be for you.  It has to fit your OWN definition of what a wedding and/or engagement ring is.  No one is going to gush over a gemstone ring like they will a diamond (or something they think is a diamond).

I’ve worn both.  The diamond got comments from random strangers.  The gemstone usually doesn’t rate a second glance, and I’m not sure people even look long enough to realize there’s two rings (and I don’t care).

When my husband and I were talking about engagement rings, I was considering going with a sapphire.  Ultimately, I was looking at rings and fell in love with an antique diamond ring.  I ADORE my ring (seriously, I still stare at it 2.5 years later), but I also still want a sapphire ring one day.  Once we make more money and don’t have quite so much student loan debt, I might get one.

Ultimately, get what you love!  It will be a wedding ring enough for you!

I originally had a diamond ring, and lost it 🙁 When we were searching for replacements, I was looking at moissanite and colored gemstones because I wasn’t interested in paying the price for diamonds, and my husband finally realized that I’m serious about doing what I want and throwing tradition out the window when I feel like it. I think our HIGHLY untraditional wedding really opened his eyes to how little I care about being conventional.

Anyway this is the ring I’ll be getting in March!!!! I am OBSESSED with it and if anyone has anything snarky to say about it I’ll be like, “Well sapphires were good enough for Diana and Kate, weren’t they?”

ETA: It’s a gemstone ring with diamond accents… maybe something like this would work for you? It’s 1.22 carats total, and .30 carats of it are diamonds.

i love colored stones! my engagement ring and wedding band both have blue diamonds. i have no regrets and as far as i can tell, i’ve never gotten any negative reactions, just a few pleasantly (i think? lol) suprised, “oh, it’s blue!” and i like having something that you don’t see every day.

I have a morganite and I love it, I think colored stones looks classy if they are rich in color like a dark blue sapphire or light and pale like mine makes it looks delicate and feminine…ive had guys my age..early 20s say craps like.. oh if I was with u, ID get u a diamond..stupid…there will always be people who are against the non traditional way…u just have to decide if your okay with it…I would have loved a pink diamond but I’m not paying 40 k for one

I don’t like it. I never know if it’s suppose to be an engagement or wedding band or not.

I think morganite is beautiful,  but I’ve heard it’s not an “every day” stone… If you want to wear it every day for the rest of your life, it may not be the stone for you.

But I’ve heard moissy is available in pink, maybe you’ll like the shade(s) you can get it in 🙂

Whatever you go with, best of luck! I went with a diamond because it didn’t occur to me not to, but sometimes I seriously crush on some of the gemstone engagement rings on here 🙂

This is my ering and wedding set. I love having the sapphires in there. Sapphires were the original engagement stone so its like old and new traditional.

I have a colored gemstone for my e-ring. I love it and I wouldn’t have my ering any other way.

I have morganite and pink sapphire in my ering and a pink sapphire eternity band along with a plain rose gold band.  I get compliments all the time and no one has mentioned it doesn’t look bridal; in fact, most people seem to correctly assume it’s a wedding set.

@Kazza:  If you want a diamond or moissanite center stone, you can add a gemstone halo for some color if you like! That might be a nice compromise.

    For example:

Personally I love double halos that alternate diamonds and gemstones, such as the one Miss Fish posted or this one:

@Lbward6:  “I love color to and ended up getting a yellow diamond halo around my center diamond. Maybe you can do something like that?

Please can you post a photo!? I’m trying to figure out what to do with my oval diamond and this is one of my ideas.

OP, I think if you want a coloured engagement ring, you should get one. All that matters is that you and your Fiancé love it.
