I am currently researching this topic for a Bridal Magazine I work for.
I was just wondering if you lovely ladies would be willing to help me, by telling me exactly why you choose to wear a coloured wedding dress on your big day?
Were there any factors that swayed your mind (celebrity weddings/friends/tradition)?
Also if you have any pictures i’d love to see your dresses!
Thank you so much!

@avenison: the availability of colored dresses is weak and is just now starting to trickle back into mainstream bridal markets. Most of us wore white or ivory because its all that is available to us within budget reason or without having to purchase an evening gown. but not everyone can afford a 6 grand vera weang black or red gown, so we buy the $500 white gown. And I also think the older generations are very “traditionalits” in swaying young brides to go white, even tho some of their own grandparents didn’e even wear white,

I’ve been married for a long time but I *would* have worn a colored dress if I’d found one I loved.

My dress is taupe and I loved it bc it’s not your average white dress. It’s different and I love it for that.

My dress had blush aspects to it. I absolutely LOVED it! It was more subtle than some blush dresses but I thought the dress was quite unique yet sort of traditional at the same time…check out the photos:

I am dying to get into some of the Blue Alfred Angelo dresses. DYING, But then I am afraid it may be too much blue, since my e-ring is blue and one of our colors is Cobalt

@avenison: I wanted a colored dress but couldn’t find one with the shape i want and in the budget 🙁 I was going to get the lazaro 3217 in peach but cost of it didn’t work for our wedding so i choose an enzoani instead the shape i love details i love except not in color and i’m bummed about that but a seamstress recommended adding some color in the flowers of the dress so I’m going to look into that and it will make me feel better. I wanted color because i wanted to be different. Even hubby said all the dresses are white long and to stand out and be bold i wanted a colored dress 🙂

I am an encore bride and want to do the wedding my way instead of what everyone else expects….I feel we should be ourselves and express our personality instead of cookie cutter type wedding..Everything about our wedding is picked on really meaningful things to us…I am wearing a deep purple evening dress for my special day.

side note: your photos are gorgeous! you all look great!
to comment on the topic at hand.. i’ll be wearing a white or at least white-ish dress, not because i’m a traditionalist (at all in any other aspect of life) but it does have to do with the tradition of white. this is the one chance to wear the stunning white gown. i can wear a red pink blue green dress any other occassion. (not that colored dresses aren’t lovely!! just a matter of personal preference for what i want to wear!) plus i LOVE wearing white, my summer wardrobe is like 50% gauzy white skirts and dresses.

I’m wearing white/ivory, and it has something to do with tradition, but I wouldn’t say “I’m a traditionalist” by any means. If that makes sense? I like the tradition well enough to follow it, but I’m definitely non-traditional in a lot of wedding ways. (Eg dated and lived with my guy for 10+ years before marriage.)
