@aekc:  Oh my GOSH that dress is stunning on you!

My FAVORITE piece of shapewear is the Assets brand by Spanx – it is sold at Target. I buy this piece exclusively I love it THAT much!

    It is the high-waisted mid-thigh shaper. http://www.spanx.com/shop/assets/shapewear/style/mid-thighs/remarkable-results-high-waist-mid-thigh-zid38-231/cat-38-catid-fncat_lya_sw_styl_mt?vva_ColorCode=NUDE&_t=pfm%3Dexpress_shop

The high waist has a sticky band, and it’s never fallen down on me, despite the fact that I have a narrow waist and anything that sits above it tends to slip down (I’m looking at you, heart rate monitor, tights, fashion belts, and fancy lingerie.) The overall shaping level is “Ultra” but the bum has super light fabric and control so it doesn’t flatten out your tush, which I love. The nude goes under everything, it’s really comfortable while wearing, and it’s really high quality for the price and the fact that you can get it at Target for about $34.

The only thing that is difficult about this is taking it off – it really takes some effort, so DEFINITELY go to the bathroom before you put it on and don’t go crazy with the beverages. Wiggling helps, and having someone to hold your dress is a must, even though you only have a sheath to worry about. But it really really works – love mine to pieces.

My biggest suggestion would be that no matter what you do wind up getting as far as shapewear goes, get something that’s high-waist (hits above your natural waist). Anything that hits just at my waist tends to pinch in, and it actually makes me look BIGGER on the bottom than I did before the shapewear – that kind of “bubble effect” is really unflattering :/ (I get the same with tights now and again).

@Lollybags:  You know Lolly, I’m still agonizing over a headpiece. We’re doing a sort of vintage/traditional Mexican theme so I’m thinking something like this:

Also forgot to add that I wear a size small in the Assets brand. I usually wear a size 6 in pants (depending on the brand it really varies though. Some brands I wear a 2 or 4, some I go up to an 8.)

@aekc:  Ah yes, I see what you mean! That lace panel in the back could be troubling. I haven’t tried any of the other Assets, but perhaps a brief that goes to mid-thigh could work for you? Something that hits lower than your natural waist – that way you avoid the “bubble effect” (haha, think we’ve coined a term there) but still get the tummy control you want?

@aekc:  i love it!  As for Spanx,  I wore some. I got the waist high long shorts.  I wasnt able to try my dress on with them beforehand.   But the store allowed me to buy several and return the ones I didnt use as long as I kept the tags on them.

@aekc:  I am having the same issue with a low back and spanx. I went to a specialty lingerie store close to where I purchased my dress (so they work together very closely) and the girl there told me that they have often had people alter spanx by cutting the back to align with the back of the stress. to me it seems like this might lessen the support… but she said people do it all the time so I might be willing to try it! just a thought. i DEFINITELY need shapewear as well and was trying to find a backless strapless longline that wouldn’t squeeze my fat to no avail.

I’m wearing a column. I’m slim but by no means a stick, I’m an hourglass. I’m a little above average height but my dress actually really elongates me. It’s also not as clingy as some – the top layer is chiffon. I find column and a-line to be the most flattering on me, but column fit my wedding better.
