My boyfriend and I both have lonnnnng and rather unique last names (his was actually created by his great-grandfather when he immgrated to the US and there is no one else with the name as far as we know.) We throw a lot of large parties at our apartment, and our friends have dubbed us with a name that combines both of our last names for simplicity sake (ie; we’re going to the XX’s for their Christmas Bash, will we see you?)
My bf and I have toyed with the idea of legally combining our names after marriage and I’m curious if anyone has done this. Our names are way too long to hyphenate, and many of our friends already use that name for us anyway (so much so that friend of friends think it’s actually our last name and that we’re already married,) and i think it’s nicer than either of ours. Plus, we like the idea of starting something new for our future family
This article speaks to the phenomenon of combining names: http://www.slate.com/articles/life/the_good_word/2006/08/keeping_up_with_the_smoneses.html
Thoughts? would you? have you? do you know anyone that has?
