It is best for my established career….

it is what we decided…

Why does it have to be a comeback? Generally people are simply curious

I don’t know how my future kids will turn out and this way I don’t have to claim them in public!

I’m going with, “We both decided we’re going to keep our names.”

I like my name better than his.

Can’t you just tell them exactly as you wrote it out here? Most people who ask why you kept your name aren’t doing so out of malicious intent, so why snap at them?

OP, if you want to do something that goes against the grain of the mainstream, then own it. You already know that there will be inevitable comments and questions. So be comfortable with your decision and don’t waste your time trying to come up with sarcastic/witty/whatever comebacks. Just be straightforward and say “I kept my name because I’m a feminist.”

If you have a witty/sarcastic comeback in your back pocket, ready to whip out on a moment’s notice, your decision to keep your name comes across less about feminism and more about attention-seeking behavior, IMO.

It also kinda sounds so … 1972, I am woman hear me roar, blah blah blah.

Just own it. It’s not a big deal unless you make it one.

Edited to add: Geeze. A little overly sensitive much? Since you’ve closed comments, I’d like to add that “Oh for God’s sakes” is probably what your audience will be thinking when you make your witty/sarcastic comeback. Lol.
