Hey bees. 1/2 story time 1/2 question!
I’m about to turn the big 3-oh! And promised myself that I’d stop sleeping with my baby blanket. I’ve had it since birth and I liked to have it up against my nose/mouth while sleeping (yeah… yeah. I know I should have given this up sooner). Anyways… I decided to have my blanket stuffed into a teddy bear keep as a momento. I’ve never slept with stuffed animals so I knew I’d be able to just leave it in our 2nd bedroom as a little token. I couldn’t just toss it.
Darling Husband took me to build a bear to get it stuffed into a teddy. Well… I proceeded to cry and barely choke out to the poor sales associate manning the stuffing machine what I wanted. He was really kind and understanding but it was definetly the most embarrassing scene I’ve ever made in public. Poor moms and their kids had to watch this grown ass woman cry at build a bear. Now I have a little guy with my childhood blankie inside it. I feel really comforted knowing I still have it but don’t sleep with it anymore. Maybe one day I’ll give it to my future child. Who knows.
So… tell me… do you/did you have a comfort item as an adult? How did you give it up? Or not? Parents… what are your views on separating kiddos from them?

somathemagical : I have always slept with a stuffed animal. Still do, in fact.
Back when I was a little kid my dad convinced me to donate my most prized possession stuffed bear to those less fortunate. I resented him for years.
Then I had a stuffed penguin named Squishy I got in 6th grade. I then had a large stuffed bear my high school b.f. bought me, then an Eeyore my BFF got me after I broke up with my B.f.
Those three are hanging out in my closet still, don’t have the heart to toss them.
Then when my husband and I had just moved in together, in 2010, we went and stayed at a fancy BnB and they had a stuffed bear as a momento and I’ve been using that once since.
Love my little bear.

I still have the same teddy bear my parents gave to me when I was 8 years old – 30yrs this coming Christmas! I slept with my bear until I was married to my first husband and kept her on my nightstand instead. Nowadays, if I’m going through a tough time or the few times H and I have slept apart, I’ll grab good ole teddy to keep me company.

I still have my favorite stuffed animal growing up. His name is puff…I think he’s a caterpillar but I’m not sure, lol.

If Darling Husband is home he is my comfort animal 🤣 Apparently I will grab one of his limbs and hold on for dear life, although I am asleep when this happens so I can neither confirm nor deny. If I am sleeping alone, I have a stuffed monkey named Pete. I love having a stuffy by my side, even at the ancient age of 37

I used to have a comfort blanket that I couldn’t sleep without anywhere. I took it to every friend’s house, camping trips, you name it. I gave it up and gave it to my dog I think 4 years ago around the beginning of DH’s and I relationship. I just decided I didn’t want to be so attached that I couldn’t sleep without it. It is a Dalmatians blanket because I grew up obsessed with 101 Dalmatians and still love them. I’ll never actually get rid of it tho. It will stay here until it falls apart. Lol

These are all so sweet!! For some reason I can’t respond to multiple people as this mobile site is acting uuupppp.
I really struggle with getting rid of blankie as I seriously LOVED sleeping with it. But for some reason my cat became obsessed with it and was eating pieces of it. I didn’t want him to get an obstruction so I had to give it up.

I have a stuffed animal. I don’t really have an emotional attachment to it, but I don’t sleep well without it simply because I don’t know what to do with my arms without hugging it.

I have a stuffed bunny that I have slept with every night of my life. My grandma bought it to give to my mom at her baby shower since I was supposed to be born on Easter. I came early and was born on Valentine’s Day and my bunny has been with me since the NICU. I thought as I got older I would be able to give it up, but once my grandma passed I knew I would never be able to. My FH is totally cool with it.

somathemagical : I’m glad I’m not weird! When Darling Husband doesnt come to bed with me, I sleep with a teddy. I got him as a gift at 16 and in a really tough stage of life (had no family, lived with friends) Darling Husband says when he comes in, I’m always cuddling it real tight haha.

I slept with my baby blanket until high school, lost it in a move. And then I kept sleeping with a baby pillow until college- forced myself to leave it at home… But when I visit my parents, I do still sleep with it! I like to cuddle it and smell it, it’s just so comforting. Glad they kept it all these years, even through a storm that caused everything to collapse and my childhood bedroom was trashed. the pillow was luckily unharmed!! I don’t have any now, I just cuddle and sniff my FH instead hahaha.

I never had anything as a child, not a dummy (pacifier) or a blanket or a bear that I was attached to! Then two years ago my grandma died at Christmas. That same Christmas my mum gave me a fleece blanket with a giant penguin on and I was having issues sleeping and missing my grandma so I took to sleeping on the couch with this blanket and generally sobbing into it. It was covered in snot and tears for a while but it was so comforting! Since then I can’t live without it! It’s the first thing I look for when I come home from work and finally sit down. It comes camping etc with me and when we fly anywhere, it stays in the car park in the car, so I can put it on my knee when I get home. As an adult, I am conscious of dragging this gross throw around so I’ve washed it to death. It constantly smells like fabric softener haha. Good job I’ve not got children yet as I would struggle to separate them from anything that comforts them! Keep your blankie! Life is hard sometimes and it’s not like your turning to drugs or alcohol or worse……chocolate! 😂

Yay! Omgsh thank you for starting this thread… just yesterday i was thinking that i was giant loser for sleeping with anything at all & needed to get rid of my stuffies ):
I have a puppy stuffie that i recently bought bc all my older stuffies are kid-sized/too small for an adult to hug properly. Im so glad to know there are actual adults that still do this as well lol

I don’t sleep with any comfort items however I still collect stuffed animals. They make me feel comfortable and happy, I just don’t need them when I sleep. I do think it’s a bit odd though, having them as an adult, like maybe I’m crazy because I have a bunch of them. But my family has always been this way a little. We see a stuffed animal we like and decide it’s “homeless” and the poor thing needs somewhere to live. Sometimes I travel with a stuffed animal too.
