I’m really lucky, the school I work at is on my side of town, I have about a 15 minute commute. Nothing bad at all! I used to live in the burbs of Chicago and had friends who would live out by me but made the trek into the city everyday for work. They were literally commuting like 3 hours a day!

@bestbuddies:  Oh NO!  πŸ™  What a bummer.  :/  Darling Husband has a very long commute.  He drives (oh the gas!) and leaves at 10am to work at 11:15 and then gets home at 8:45pm :/ so I know how much it can take from a day.  Even though that bus is a drag, maybe you can read or get a good phone for doing online things?  That stinks though, total crap.  πŸ™‚

@bestbuddies: It takes me about 45 minutes to get to work each way (I drive).  I personally like the commute time to listen to the radio and prepare for work or unwind going home.  I don’t sit in traffic either (unless theres an accident).

Plus I can WFH whenever I need to which is convenient since I do drive kind of far when I go into my office.

My commute is roughly an hour each way…so I voted 50-60 minutes.

On a good day it’s 45 minutes. Today it took 2 hours to get home. Thankfully Darling Husband and I work for the same company so atleast we get to suffer together.

I just got a job about 60 miles away, so a little under an hour drive. Mr.ND and I won’t have to decide until after the summer where we’ll live, so we may live in a small town mid-way and split the drive 30 minutes each, or I may commute a full hour from the city we’re in now. We’d have to drive, no public transport for those two locations.

We’ll have to see. I’d reaaaally prefer to do the 1/2 and 1/2 route, but getting a home in the city may be easier and more practical long-term.

@bestbuddies: I know that in my case, the friend that did an hour and a half each time lived in West Dundee and drove into the city each day.

@bestbuddies: About 20 miles, almost all of which are highway. If there is so much as a car pulled over it will slow down traffic. God forbid there’s an actual accident and it could take hours. Don’t even get me startd on snow storms. Ya may as well not even bother going to work. I can’t wait until I start working from home and have no commute!

@bestbuddies:  I know what you mean!  We have thought about moving to Chicago for graduate school (we are probably going to stay where we are) but I have looked at places and if we lived there- I would probably live north (Rogers or up to Evanston- I like that neighborhood) because prices are nuts otherwise.  Yes, I do everything.  I pay bills, clean (when I have to!), cook!  Darling Husband has no time.  When he gets home he eats while we watch tv in bed and then we fall asleep.  I always make extra food for his lunch the next day.  That is really hard to have such a long commute.  My new job is about 15 or 20 minutes, so it isn’t too bad, but gosh I dislike driving.  I wish Darling Husband could take a train or something but I have pounded it into his head (at least) to drive safe (because his driving used to make me nervous), so he makes extra time to take his time.
