Concave vs Convex Cathedral Settings- Any opinions?

I don’t think there’s much difference, just aesthetics! Do you have a preference on the look? I find the opposite to yours (I honestly have no idea which is convex/cave) a bit more elegant looking. Actually, I do think there is a slight difference after looking at some google pics. The opposite to yours that curves upwards toward the stone keeps the band closer to your finger/center stone. With such a large stone, it’s already going to be a really large ring. That triangle of space on either side of the stone actually represents a fairly large amount. That will add finger rub, bumping, etc. I would probably do the curved upward way to avoid that. Looking at many larger stones it seems like most go that route.

I would guess they made the sides a bit thicker because of the pave. 1.7mm is VERY thin, so they made it a bit thicker to account for all the metal they will have to dig out to insert tiny stones.

This one might explain what I mean about the space beside it:

It should be a relatively easy CAD change! Maybe use that emerald picture (or go stalk pricescope for some big stone inspo) so you can show more specifically what youre looking for.

jellybellynelly :  convex vs concave:

when the belly is convex the girl had sex… 😝

OP I think it’s just a matter of taste. Have it changed if you like it better the other way around. I’d, too

Definitely concave like what jellybellynelly posted! Not sure why the jeweler can’t get a grip on that. I’d send her example pics.

I prefer concave as well. That said, I’m wondering if the large size of your stone combined with your small ring size makes concave shoulders possible or not? I’m not sure that they could make the shoulders blatantly concave without losing some of the cathedral aspect, because there’s not a ton of space between where the shoulder starts and the stone begins. It’s going to be gorgeous either way, and even if it isn’t super concave it will be much more delicate than the CAD makes it appear.

Can’t wait to see the finished product!
