I had a copper IUD for a couple of years and never had any problems with it. I had it removed a few months before we started TTC, and it didn’t affect my cycle at all. I got pregnant the second cycle.

I wouldn’t be concerned at all, its the one barrier method that doesn’t use synthetic hormones to prevent pregnancy and hormones are the main culprit for women having fertility issues.

If you’re still concerned just wait 1 cycle to conceive after it’s taken out and you should be good.

@MrsPhilly:  Nothing from me personally (which is a good thing! don’t want kids yet and I love my IUD!) but my friend is pregnant after having hers for 5 years.  She’s 35 and got pregnant within like 6 weeks of taking it out and TTC.  🙂

@MrsPhilly:  I hear you, I tried the copper IUD myself but my cramps were insane and my periods were 14 days long on it.. no joke. I was so sad having to go back on the pill 🙁 Luckily for me we just got preggo on my 2nd cycle off the pill lol. Still didn’t like the idea of being on synthetic hormones though.

@MrsPhilly:  I don’t have a copper iud story for myself – I had the Mirena IUD. I was really worried about whether and how soon I would be able to conceive because I read the message boards and lots of stuff abour how Mirena ruined people’s fertility and so forth. I think birth control is just an easy target for fertility struggles as its the closest thing that people do before they try to conceive. Anywho, I got pregnant my second cycle trying, 5 months after I got Mirena out. One of my good (and super fertile) friends had the copper IUD and she got pregnant 2 weeks after she got hers out! There’s no logical or scientific reason why the copper IUD would impede your fertility, so my money is on that your exactly as fertile as you were before the copper IUD!
