I can only tell you from my experience. Darling Husband and I BD’d on a Tuesday night. I was temping, and Fertility Friend put my O date on that Friday. Darling Husband and I didn’t DTD again until Sunday night. My O date could have been off by 1-2 days because it was my first month temping and I didn’t always temp exactly at the same time, but 14 days later, I got a BFP!

Are you sure of your O date? If you are, technically sperm can live in you for up to 5 days, but I’m not sure how likely that is.

Also, it can be safe to get an x-ray while pregnant. When I told my dentist that I may be, he laughed and said walking through the security line at the airport is more dangerous than dental x-rays—and Dr. Google agreed (for what it’s worth). Consider reading this from the FDA about x-rays and pregnancy. http://www.fda.gov/Radiation-EmittingProducts/RadiationEmittingProductsandProcedures/MedicalImaging/MedicalX-Rays/ucm142632.htm

Regarding the rest of your life, I would continue on with moderation (don’t drink an entire bottle of wine and then play contact football) until you are sure.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I think you only have a one day over-lap (between sperm life and ovulation). You’re very likely not pregnant, but better safe than sorry!

@BrandNewBride:  That’s not quite true. Sperm can live up to five days in the right conditions.

OP, it’s possible you could be pregnant, though unlikely. Many women on here continue on with life as normal during the two week wait, and that’s what I would recommend for you as well. You could mention the possibility of pregnancy to your doctor, and they might take extra precautions if necessary at the appointment.

@KH:  You can totally play contact football. Your uterus is protected by your pelvic bone throughout the 1st trimester. I know a dozen women that played rugby into their 2nd month(they didn’t know); all had healthy babies.

But in terms of x-rays and alcohol; better safe than sorry!

@twofortheshow:  Sorry, I wasn’t clear! I meant that if she had sex 4 days before she ovulated, and sperm lives for 5 days, that there would have only been one day where she could have concieved!

@MrsRugbee:  WOW! I learned something…my MD told me to avoid contact sports, but I think that was in jest since I obviously don’t play any (and therefor wouldn’t know how to protect myself properly). Thanks for clarifying. 🙂

@MrsRugbee:  Thank you! I think those links may come in handy. I do like to cross train and weight lift and have been wondering about it…

That was my accident cycle.  I O’d on CD 10 when usually I don’t O until CD 20+.  We BD’d on CD 5 only, no other BDing until after conception, so there you go.

My extremely limited understanding (from a brief perusal of TCOYF) is that you are safe having intercourse until 6 pm on a day where you don’t have fertile CM. I think it said that sperm dies within a few hours unless there’s fertile CM there to keep them alive and swimming? Bees who have actually read TCOYF (instead of just highlighting a few sentences while watching Kourtney & Kim Take Miami, like me) – please confirm or correct me!

I learnt that sperm can live for up to 3 days, so you never know 🙂
