Don’t worry. More of the low and mid-range designers and brands still do regular vanity sizing. The smaller couture sizing happens more with the higher-end designers. So you get to spend more money and feel bad about yourself all at once! 🙂

@MlleFabuleux:  that’s not really true.  i have an Allure and they run extremely small.  Others do as well, even David’s Bridal and they are not even close to couture.

@janetsnakehole:  No, I meant the sizing is identified as “couture.” My statements weren’t absolutes, either. I simply stated that you’ll more often find the ridiculous small sizing with higher-end designers. I’m not aiming to disparage bridal designers. Just explaining how it works and trying to ease OP’s mind that it’s ok if her dress size is her normal street size (*or smaller).

@adillon1:  yep, you order the size that fits the biggest part of you and have the rest tailored.

@Snapdragon2804:  I worried about my dress size as well. The shop’s dress I tried on was a size 8. The dress shop owner measured me herself and ordered me a size 6. The dress designer was Pronovias. I’m usually a street size 2 in dresses. I went to my first fitting last month and the size 6 fit perfectly. Very snug, so I can’t gain any weight! The shop you bought your dress from should be experienced in ordering the right sized dresses. I’d trust that they ordered you the right size.

@Snapdragon2804:  I’m with you! I am nervous because they ordered a Size 0 for me when I think I’m supposed to be a 2 based on the charts I saw online when I got home…  but the consultant just kept saying “0 should be good for you, you want it to be tight anyway” D:

Anyhow… fingers crossed that it will be right! I guess i should start dieting just in case Haahha. I am sure yours will turn out well!

Hi ladies!

Hoping for some sizing help. I tried on casablanca 2062 last week and loved it. I tried on a 12 and she said she would probably go up one size on me because it was bunching just a bit in the chest area.

My question is, I thought they took your own personal measurements to order a new gown? I also inquired about hollow to hem, because I am very short, only 4’11, but she said I wouldnt need it. I am feeling a little uncomfortable about that. I was hoping for custom measurments all around the board.

What were your experiences with sizing? Did they order a specific number size for you or did they take your measurements?

Thanks!

I ordered a Casablanca 1992.  They took my measurements to order.  I had to order 3 sizes up from my street clothes size to fit my chest.  Major alterations are going to be underway.  They also have to shorten it even though i am 5’8.

@angcamp84:

They should techincally measure you when ordering a dress.

I purchased an Allure gown. The sample dress was a size 12 and fit me perfectly. My actual measurements put me into a size 14 but since the sample dress fit me so well the bridal consultant felt comfortable ordering me a size 12. My plan was to lose a few pounds before the big day – but of course that didn’t really happen – I actually gained a few. So when I went in for my first fitting the little zipper below my corset wouldn’t zip up. They had to let the dress out slightly. Last fitting went well however two weeks prior to the wedding were the most stressful for me so I actually wound up losing weight right before (5-8 lbs).  The day of my wedding the dress was a little loose so I most likely could’ve done without letting it out. Try your best to not gain/lose weight around fitting time.

I’m 5’2 and got the hollow to hem measurement done. Allure made my dress according to my measurements with my bridal shoes on. The bottom of my dress had multiple organza tier layers so I wanted the height to be done correctly from the designer. If the bottom of your dress has a lot of detail or layers then I would definately recommend getting the hollow to hem done.
