Engaged in Paris:  You’ll hear plenty of people say they’ve used the pull out method successfully. But we used it when we were in the stage of thinking about another baby but not quite ready to commit. The result was a 7lb 11oz baby boy lol.

For some reason, my body has never reacted well to being on hormonal birth control. Under the advice of my doctor, I was told to come off the pill and Mr G and I have been relying soley on condoms for 5 years, never any issues or mishaps. I track my ovulations though, so I am aware when we might be going through a particularly “high risk” time (not that that ever stopped us!)

doberman:  Yeah, I would not recommend the pull-out method, as millions of sperm are also released in pre-ejaculatory fluid and as the old saying goes “it only takes one!”

anndck:  I’d be considering an IUD like Mirena. There’s only a low release of hormones do it tends to reduce the chances of hormonal acne. Condoms aren’t the most reliable long term contraceptive so I’m not their biggest fan.

We’ve used only condoms for over a year. No problems. Part of me would like to try hormonal bc, but so many women have adverse reactions that I’m nervous about it and I’m squeamish about the pain of a copper iud some women experience when they haven’t had a kid yet. Plus you hear about iuds wandering, getting lost, and getting embedded in the uterus. Yikes. Idk. Condoms just seem the least risky to us for now.

Would never ever ever rely on the pullout method. That’s just asking for an oops baby.

Looking forward to that male injection birth control getting out of that testing phase and onto the market. Idk if I could convince my boyfriend though lol.

anndck:  I am getting the Mirena IUD because I was tired of the pill. The Mirena has hormones in it but there is an IUD called the Paraguard that is hormone free. Have you considered this as an alternative? I wouldn’t feel comfortable using just condoms but thats my personal preference.

We only used condoms for about 10 years with no problems. My sister on the other hand got pregnant within a month of using just condoms. She never had unprotected sex so she’s thinking there was a defect in it. She always wanted to be a mom… just not so soon! I on the other had have started taking the pill while using condoms because I never ever want kids!

We use condoms only and our baby was planned so they do work for us.
