I’m officially a nut. My dog is going in to get her teeth cleaned today. I know, routine thing, lots of dogs do it, she’ll be FINE.
She’s being put under, so no food or water since midnight last night.
This morning, she happily woke up. DH took her out for her normal potty walk and made it shorter than usual.
Her routine after that is head straight to the water bowl and get fed shortly thereafter.
But. No water bowl was to be found.
I’m certain I am attributing emotions to her sad, droopy eyes… but it was KILLING me.
Darling Husband is going with her, because they wanted one of us to be with her when they sedated her because she’s high strung at the vet.
My stomach is in KNOTS. I am so glad it’s Darling Husband going with her and not me, because I’m a wreck! I keep thinking: how do parents do this with REAL children?!
Leaving the house I told the dog: I hope you don’t die (oh brother, drama-queen dog mama over here!)
Anyway… that’s my story. Just venting, I guess. I didn’t realize how nervous I’d be about her going under and getting her teeth taken care of. She was spayed at the pound, before we got her, so I know she’ll be fine under anesthesia. They might have to pull a tooth, so I’m a little worried about that (and the recovery/antibiotics ? afterwards). I think mostly, I’m just sad for the dog, because her very set routine is all messed up and she’s probably hungry thinking what the heck?! 🙁 She’s was a high-needs rescue and we’ve worked SO HARD at getting her to a calm state, with lots of training, etc…
I’m ridiculous… I know!

@oracle: She will be fine! Our fur baby had his teeth cleaned 3 months ago and he was fine 🙂

I know how you feel! Darling Husband and I are heading out on a 10 day work trip. We’ve NEVER left our furbaby before. Even though she will be with my coworker-who will love and adore her-it was so hard leaving her last night. Darling Husband even cried!!!

@oracle: you are not alone! I am crazy overprotective about my pup! But she’ll be totally fine! =)

@oracle: I can relate! Just going to the vet with my cat is difficult, even when he isn’t being put under. I had my mom take him when he got neutered and my SO stays with him in the room when he gets needles lol. I step outside.
I am such a baby.
She will be fine, but yeah, you will worry! Call to get an update when it’s done.. that’s what I did.

I had to laugh because I would be feeling the EXACT SAME WAY.
Our dog is a rescue too so for some reason I am so hyper-protective and sensitive about him. Last week I accidentally stepped on his paw and almost cried….he didn’t even seem to care/remember after about a second. I, on the other hand, felt the need to play with him, give him a treat, etc because I felt so bad. I’m a loser.

aww it’ll be okay! I was really nervous when my puppy got spayed a few weeks ago so I do understand 🙂 our other dog has had his teeth cleaned before and it was super easy

I completely understand!! I’m a crazy dog mom too. I have 3. My mom has a 14 year old yorkie and when she was 11, she was put under for teeth cleaning and she came out just fine but we were all worried because of her age.

I relate! I am such a worrier about my pups. But our older dog has been put under to have her teeth cleaned several times and it went well. She was a little out of it for a few hours after but that is about it.
Good luck! Everything will go fine. And you are such a good dog mom to take care of her teeth so well 🙂

awww she’ll be ok and back to normal in no time.
I’m the same way. my baby boy got neutered last month and I was a total mess. I was so worried about him getting put under I couldn’t get any work done that day. I made Darling Husband drop him off because I didn’t have the strength to do it. And the no food thing was just SO sad. But I promise you that he didn’t hold a grudge. He was just so happy to see me when I came to pick him up.

Mine is in for a spay today, I had to take her in and I was so sad, I hate doing stuff like that. I hate seeing ppl or animals in pain :/ so I’m bummed that I’ll be pickign her up too. SO has to work. I almost backed out last night!
She was so confused like , where is my food mom? It was tough, but they do this everyday, per my daughter-lol-she was better at it than me 🙂
they told me water is ok, so at least she had that. Hopefully that was right.

Our pets are our babies. I get it.
If it makes you feel any better, Darling Husband and I are going on vacation for ten days starting on Monday and we’re taking our two cats to stay with my parents while we’re gone. Our cats know and like my parents and have stayed with them before, but every single time we go away, I get stressed out and worried about leaving them. Especially this time because I’ve never been away from them for that long.

Awh…. your responses are seriously making me tear up! Thank you so much for the votes of confidence and the understanding!!!!

Don’t worry, you aren’t alone. My dogs are like my children. Yes, I know people say, “well wait until you have real kids,” but believe me my dogs will still be like my children even then. I’ve already worried about them being sad about not having as much attention when there is a baby in the picture and how I can compensate for it, hahaha. My parents are the same way with their dogs so I’ve always grown up that way. My future inlaws think I’m totally insane because I said that I would spend $10,000+ if necessary to save one of their lives if it ever came down to it. Oh well 🙂

I was the same way (my dog is adopted too). My dog was actually so crazy I had to give him a mild sedative pill a half an hour before travelling, so I had a very drunk dog. Once at the vet, because he seemed to get more dominant with me around, I couldn’t be with him while thyey put him under for his teeth cleaning and lump removals.
It was tough, but he pulled through fine. Took him a few days to eat. I got him some chicken, lamb, and rice soft food. Then he got spoiled!!
