Rice is generally not good because if birds eat it, their stomachs explode when the rice expands. 🙁 Birdseed, lavender, ecofetti, sparklers, they could wave ribbon wands…?

I wouldn’t want rice that couldn’t definitely hurt, bubbles are overly used and you might get soap in your eyes, I think petals or confetti

I like the look of sparklers or rose petals.  Its nice because you can get the rose petals in the color of your wedding.  And the sparklers look so great in the pictures I’ve seen.

I had bubbles at my wedding & I loved it. They look really cool in photographs too.

I second the no-rice thing.. bad for the birds. Also, depending on your venue, they might not let you throw or drop anything, so if you haven’t already you should check with them to make sure.

The rice thing is actually a myth, but these days most places won’t let you throw it regardless. birdseed is a lovely alternative, as are petals. We had people ringing hand-bells as we left– it worked out better than i thought it would! Good luck with whatever you decide!

The rice blowing up bbird’s stomach’s is a myth. Check out the article on snopes!http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/birdrice.asp

We are having rice thrown because it is traditional and I love the meaning behind rice. It’s generally a symbol of prosperity and bounty at weddings.

I used ecofetti! It’s biodegradable, washes away with water, and showed up in the pics! I actually ordered WAY too much and have an unopened bag of white if anyone wants to buy it!

I’m opting for rose petals.  I’ve seen it at several weddings, and they’re gorgeous.  But do find out if your venue restricts what you may throw, or if there is a clause or fine for cleanup or lack thereof!

@Laylabelle:  Did you get the eco confetti stuck in your hair? i really want to use it, and if it’s just a little bit in my hair, i’m OK with it. it looks like snow and we’re getting married in March on a ski mountain so it’ll be fitting, but i’m worried that i’ll have tons of it in my hair and it will look really bad.
