- Wedding: August 2012
Hi all! I am new to this board and I must say I have found such helpful tips and info! Now I need some input and opinions from others. My fiance are so comfused on how our wedding should take place. We originally planned on a destiation wedding. After finding out the majority of or family would not be attending we decided to have one nearby. The thing is, neither of us have much family, and things are already getting out of control (the wedding is not for another year.) Family members want a specific part (bridesmaids) when they are barely affording to live. I couldn’t offer this role to the 2 cousins because they can’t afford their part (which is unfair to the other bridesmaids) and I can not pick up the slack. We are on a tight budget for the wedding (10-12k total including rings, dress, honeymoon etc.) Then I have other people mentioning they want to be invited when they know I am on a strict budget.
On top of this, my fiance just recently found out he needs surgery and it will be a 6,000 deductible he needs to meet with the insurance. So at this point I am not too sure if we can pull off the wedding next year. I am just not sure what to do! The venue we picked is requiring the deposit 3 weeks from now. I wish we had known about this medical deductible before telling our familes about the wedding date and place. I feel like if we change our plans now we will have a bunch of disappointment. I also wish we could have just settled on the destination wedding to begin with (it would be so much cheaper!)
If I change plans now, do you think the people I chose to be involved (MOH, BM) will be offened? Any alternative suggestions for a cheaper, wedding “gathering?” My fiance thinks we should just get married at the court and do a dinner (I feel he is thinking a long the lines of Olive Garden lol) , but I feel like I may regret that later on. I know I won’t regret the destination wedding cause I can still wear my dress and it will be beautiful.
Any advice, suggestions, recommendations is greatly appreciated!
