If you have the chance to find a Brides Against Breast Cancer sale near you, I highly recommend it! They take used and old sample dresses and resell them for a SUPER discounted price, and use the money to help women with breast cancer go on a cruise or fly out to see their families.
At the one I went to, they had dresses from as low at $99 and I think the most expensive one was a San Patrick for like $2,000, but most were about the $500-$800 range.

I am not familiar with your market, but how many people are you planning on having? Is there a park/pavilion that gives you the option of both indoor and outdoor facilities? They are usually inexpensive. Is there a local museum nearby, mansion, or historical grounds? What type of setting do you want?

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Project Wedding. They have great resources to find vendors. You can find a reception places. There are 227 names for the Houston area. You can also find wedding dress shops. Here’s a link to the reception vendors.

On the venue, it’s hard to say not knowing your budget or the size of your wedding. I was in your shoes a year ago and felt completely overwhelmed! Can you provide a couple more details about what you’re looking for? For the dress, try Ventura’s. They carry many of the more budget friendly designers’ lines, and they always have sample sale dresses available.

I bought my dress at the Brides Against Breast Cancer when it was in Sugar Land last August and am very happy with my purchase (my dress only needs to be hemmed in the front and maybe taken up in the shoulders). That being said, if I had known about it back then, I probably would have found one at Marry Go Round. They have samples and consignments. In a much better range of sizes than I saw at BABC. The styles are more current. And the prices were great. There was only one Monique dress that I thought really needed to be cleaned and was way over priced. They had a great selection of styles. I recommend going on a weekday though because it’s really small. The staff was helpful without being too fussy. They’ll help you more if you want, but we were doing fine on our own. I HIGHLY recommend it! I found many more dresses there that I liked than I saw at Ventura’s (and at Ventura’s, I looked through the WHOLE store, not just selected sizes).

I second the recommendation for Marry Go Round. The owner is sweet and helpful, the gowns are in good shape and the prices are reasonable. The shop itself is really cute to boot. Good luck!
