  • Wedding: June 2010

I will add a few….I got my dress here in Cincinnati but of the CT vendors we used:

Hair: Jen at Hair Trendz III in Storrs. She was fantastic! My hair was beautiful, it was just what I wanted, and we got married in a freaking windstorm but it didn’t move!

Limo: All City Limo. They were decent. Nothing that wowed me, but they were on time, politely stayed an extra hour ($89) when things took longer than we planned, had champagne and liquor in the limo, and they had the best prict. Plus they were one of two companies I found in CT that had a 10-person limo. (Apparently there’s a law against that many passengers unless you’re grandfathered in.) The limo was nice; my bro-in-law was sitting near the radio and the only complaint he had was that it was apparently very hard to figure out and so for some reason we were hearing “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” in the middle of June….

Photos: David Apuzzo out of Hamden. I’ve only seen a handful of them but they’re fantastic. He’s easygoing and easy to work with, was totally on top of communicating with us through the whole process, and he shot some really amazing, fun, high-quality pics. He was very nice to all our family members.

Flowers: Michelle’s Florals in Vernon. All we got were a bouquet and botonneire. It was over $100. They were alstromeria, which I know are not pricey. I don’t know if this is standard, but (a) we didn’t have much time to shop around, and (b) I’d seen other arrangements they’d done (for my FIL’s funeral, unfortunately) and I knew they did good work so I was confident in them. Let me tell ya…..I emailed them a picture of the exact bouquet I wanted – alstromeria and pearl pins. I specified that I wanted the pins and even emailed them a pic of light blue swarovski pearls so they would get what I wanted. They did not respond to confirm they got the email. I emailed them again asking them if they got the first email. No response. I eventually called and they then confirmed that they had gotten both my emails. OK. The day of, my SIL and Mother-In-Law picked up the flowers. I will say, the bout was perfect and the bouquet was beautiful; they had added some nice little touches (goldenrod and some pretty leaves.) No pearls. SIL went back; they said they couldn’t get the pearls. Nobody had contacted me to let me know they couldn’t get the pearls. I would have made them myself had I known. Instead, SIL (god love her) bought supplies and made me some pearl pins that day. Also, SIL and Mother-In-Law said they were pretty rude when they went to pick them up – nobody greeted them or even smiled at them while they were there.

Cake: Creative Cakes by Donna in East Haddam. Beautiful cake, just what I wanted, and YUMMY. Darling Husband was a little disappointed that the red velvet cake wasn’t all that red and didn’t have the same chocolatey taste of some red velvet cakes….but it was still super yummy and light and fluffy. She did little seahorses and starfish and shells which were adorable.

Reception: Well, we went out to dinner and had a private room. We only had 11 people. Still though….we went to Vinnie’s Otter Cove in Old Saybrook. The food was fabulous. Pretty much everyone said it was one of the best meals they’d ever had. We had calamari as an appetizer and everyone loved it – even those who ordinarily wouldn’t touch calamari. Our server was pretty great, although for some reason he kept coming to me first (to take orders, deliver food, refills, etc.) and went around the table coming to my husband last. We laughed about that. Otherwise, they were quite accommodating….and it deserves a second mention: the food. YUM. Would be awesome for a rehearsal dinner – they have a good-sized private room upstairs.
