@QueenOfSerendip:  I think this is a completely personal experience–some people need additional time to plan, to save money, etc. Your experience is just that, your experience. I get what you’re saying but seems like a sweeping generalization.

We had an 8 month engagement. It was MORE than enough time to plan a fantastic wedding, and I was VERY over it by the end. I wouldn’t have wanted it any longer… and easily could have cut 2 months off of it.

If a friend was asking, I’d say in my mind, the ideal length of engagement is 5 – 9 months if you can swing it (depending on season issues and how strongly you feel about having particular vendors/venues). Lots of factors go into that, but yeah – we debated between an 8 month and a 15 month engagement and I am SO glad we went shorter.

@QueenOfSerendip:  It’s interesting that you say you are AGAINST couples who marry after less than 2 years.  In my experience it seems like those are the couples that marriages seem to work really well!   I guess everyone has their own opinion on things!

By the time we marry we’ll be at the 2 1/2 year mark and we’ll have had less than a year engagement.  I think we’ll be just fine!

@QueenOfSerendip:  Consider us the exception to your rule then…Mr. 99 and I were married nine months to the day after we met, we’ve been married five years….my brother and his wife were married within a year, they just celebrated their tenth anniversary, and my parents, who got engaged after two weeks, married two months later, passed the 37th year anniversary in February….it’s good advice, but certainly not the only way to go….some people know a sure thing when they see it.

I think its completely personal preference. Just because you enjoyed a short engagement doesn’t mean everyone will. We’ve been together for 8 years and had a 16 month engagement. I wouldn’t of wanted to get married any sooner. I took some time to just enjoy being engaged before fully jumping into wedding planning.

@QueenOfSerendip:  I have been dating my Fiance for just over 2 years, we got engaged on 15th april 2013 and hoped to have a wedding september 2014. Too stressful, too many opinions and options and time to wait until we can do anything productive and we didnt want the wedding to take over our lives so we moved the date and are now getting married on 13th july this year!! In just 9 weeks that means we had a 3 month engagement and it feels amazing.
