Hey! I’ve lived in Richmond for the last 2+ years and really like it. It is WAY better than NOVA (where I grew up too…also, go Dukes!) and MUCH more affordable. We haven’t bought a house here (plan to move back to SC in 1.5 years) but we pay under $1000 in rent a month for a two bedroom/one bathroom apt in a duplex with a fenced in backyard, within the city limits. I have a two mile commute. It is glorious.

There are always festivals around here and tons of things to do. I can truthfully say I’m never bored. Lots of awesome parks and the river is here for you to lounge by during the summer.

VCU hospital is one of the largest trauma hospitals in the country and actually has the largest ER square footage wise. Beyond that, there are many other hospitals as well. I know several friends that have gotten jobs here as RNs.

I would definitely recommend the area to people.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

@chocolatecoveredstrawberry:  Don’t have much advice for you, but I do live in a suburb pretty close to Philly. It is so expensive! I too have considered moving to Richmond in the past because it seems like such a nice place to have a family!

I love Richmond, there is just so much to do there! I lived there for a year during college. As far as the job market. I know a few people who got hired at St. Marys after graduation from nursing school recently. They are a Bon Secours hospital. I don’t know specifics though, sorry!

I’ve lived all over the richmond and surrounding areas for 23 years and I love it!

Housing-wise, if you want more bang for your buck I would suggest checking out Chesterfield county which depending on which part you live in can be 10-15minutes away from downtown Richmond. It’s a bit more suburban but very family friendly with great school districts and parks. We currently rent a 4 bedroom house in Chesterfield for $800/month which I think is a steal.

If you want to be closer to downtown Richmond I would suggest Shockoe Bottom,The Fan, or Oregan Hill. It can be a bit pricer in these areas but you’ll be in the middle of all the history and beauty of the city that you said you loved.

There are several local hospitals (MCV, CJW Medical Center, Henrico Doctors, St. Marys Hospital, Richmond Community…the list continues).

@chocolatecoveredstrawberry:  I’ve lived in Richmond my entire life (I’m 24) except for the two years that I lived in Mechanicsville (that is only 15 minutes away from Richmond).

What age are you? Many college/just out of college aged folk live in the Fan, or around Carytown. (Both are literally in the heart of Richmond).

There is so much to do in Richmond! The Poe Muesum, VA Museum of Fine Arts, The Science Museum, Belle Isle, Brown’s Island, and SO many more awesome places!!! and you MUST eat at Bottoms Up Pizza in Shockoe Bottom! It is THE best pizza in Richmond ๐Ÿ™‚

I am from Chesterfield, I’ve lived here my entire life. It also just so happens that I am an RN and I work at a smaller community hospital in Chesterfield. What kind of nursing does your husband do currently? If you’d like to send me a private message I’d be happy to answer any questions you have! ๐Ÿ™‚

@chocolatecoveredstrawberry:  that would be awesome! It’s so funny to meet someone so close on WB! I was actually going to change my major to international relations because german is pretty useless, but I realized it would take a lot longer to finish than I want to be in school! I actually took three political science courses with Polsky last semester, and they were hell, but also awesome! LOL
