Has your groom been married before as well?

It’s a shame that people don’t think a second marriage is as special, and I’m sorry you are having to field those comments. Look, your love and relationship is just as special, so celebrate it any way you wish! If you want the full-on wedding, go for it. But a destination wedding would be really incredible too, and would relieve you of a lot of headaches. Where do you think you would go?

Neither my Darling Husband or I were married before, but we received alot of comments (all from my side) because I am an older bride. Hello, I’m 33?!?! Sorry I’m not 21 with stars and big dreams in my eyes. I went with a Destination Wedding. The naysayers of course, didn’t come (my entire family sans dad).

You can’t please everybody. Your day, no matter if it’s your second wedding or not!! I have an ex friend who has been married 3 times-before she was 30. She had a big wedding each time. She is currently engaged to #4. That may be a little extreme..but she still had a wedding each time!!

I am such a huge fan of DWs. You can devote an entire week to it, like we did. We got to spend time with all our nearest and dearest, everything was relaxed, we met up for dinners, everyone stayed close..it was really the best idea we (ahem, I) had!!

I’m an encore bride.  This is FI’s first marriage.  I’m 42, he’s 41.

We have rec’d nothing but positive comments from everyone.  Including the sentiment that they are really glad we are going for an all-out “regular” wedding.

Do what is best for you guys.  I can’t believe all those people are saying such negative things to you.

I would just ignore them.  At my age, I honestly don’t care what people think.

@baroness:   His mother is paying?  oh dear.

I’d have the wedding I could afford without her money.  Money with strings attached is never worth it.

This! Don’t let her blackmail you with the money she’s offering to pay with!! That’s essentially what it is!
