I am not sure that one or two pins would be enough to take a hairstyle from up-do to half-up-half-down-do. Lots of brides change their hairstyle for the reception, but I think generally they have someone on hand to redo it for them. Generally it’s a little more complicated than just removing a few bobby pins, because your hair will probably be all weird from the hairspray and having been up all morning. But in theory, it’s totally possible and could look awesome! Just make sure you or a friend or a stylist is on-hand to make it happen.

My stylist is coming to the hotel in the morning to do all the bridal party hair. Then she will return later that afternoon (which is the site of our reception) to change my updo to a partly-up do. I’m having a silk flower put in and ditching the veil. I’m paying her extra to return to do this but it will be worth it not to have to worry about reception hair!

Check out what Abby from Style Me Pretty did with her hair, she had it up for the ceremony and partially down for the reception and she talks about how they did it here: http://www.stylemepretty.com/2008/05/23/wedding-beauty-2/

I saw a selection of convertible hairstyles on theknot.com recently.  If you look in their "Hair" section you’ll find them, I can’t remember exactly where they were.

I think my hair on a daily basis is convertible. It starts off down, then half up, then in a bun.

I see no reason why FL humidity will allow me to do anything differently on my wedding day. I’m jealous of all you Northern brides

I am!!!! A friend of mine did that and I’m totally stealing the idea. My FI’s sister is a hairstylist so I’m going to have her primp me a little bit. It’s a big loose, curly updo, then it’ll drop down for the recpetion (when we’re inside and the risk for frizzies and flyaways are gone!).
