I’m going to my friend’s son’s 1st birthday party tomorrow and she said that any age appropriate toys/clothes would be good. I was hoping for some less vague ideas, but I’m sure she’s busy getting ready for the party! So I turn to y’all for help. Anyone know what toys are “in” right now for 1 year old boys?

It’s hard when you don’t know what he has already.
What about something like this from Target with a gift receipt in case he has one already: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Yellow-Push-Ride-Racer/dp/B001JCR1TQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1302393195&sr=1-4
This Eric Carle Flash Cards are cute but not sure if they sell them at a local store for you: http://www.amazon.com/Eric-Carle-Animal-Flash-Cards/dp/B000VLH94S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1302393284&sr=1-1
You probably can’t go wrong with books about cars/trucks/dinasaurs/numbers/alphabet etc.
Have fun at the party!

From babysitting, I would say:
The toys they sit on and ride around on are fun for 1 and continues to be fun for a few years
The girl I babysat started getting into farm animals….Old McDonald….her first two-syllable word was ‘chicken’ and I used to love singing this song for her and having her make the animal songs or say an animal name.
The leapfrog fridge magnet kits are great…..there is a farm animal one that would be good for this age.
She was also really into baby dolls and baby stuff for her babies. Not just for girls! I’m a JK teacher and the boys play with the baby too.
A great set of blocks is always in style. The Haba Fantasy blocks look really cool.
Books books books. You can’t go wrong with books! They will be treasured for years. I would say that books are the best. You could even get a matching stuffed animal to the book set. Or a matching blankey.

Books are always great as well as some of the bigger play toys that they actually can start playing with now.

Books! as the mom to a one year old and four year old, I can never have too many books in the house!
