I like Jack. I feel like such a downer with these baby name posts but making up names is just something I can’t get behind. There are so many beautiful names out there, my daughters name took a long time to find but we didn’t make it up and it’s unique. It hasn’t yet cracked in to the top 500.

@funkymunky85:  The original version is McKenna, it’s an Irish surname. What I mean by made up is made up spelling. I’m from a large Irish family so it’s actually painful for me to see butchered Irish names. Any off spellings confuse me though, when it’s said outloud it’s the same name.

You could look into Hawaiian names or your heritage for names as well. That way they have meaning to you.

@ShutterbugCait:  It’s also that the prefix “Mc” literally means “son of” in Gaelic. So Mcnames are particularly bewildering choices for little girls. In fact,  “Makenna” means “Son of Kenneth!”  (I appreciate your Hawaiian inspiration, OP – why not stick with the spelling of the original place name, though? Just curious.)

Jack James is very snappy sounding, but Jack is a nickname for James, so some people might think he’s named James James.

I think Makena Ronalee is beautiful! The names sound great together, and it’s different and lovely. 🙂

I didn’t realize you had made your choice, I thought you were making a list of names you liked. I was just saying if you wanted to expand your list that was a way you could do it.

I love Makenna Ronalee and I love the way you originally spelt it. I don’t think it matters how “it is supposed” to be spelt, it’s whatever you like that matters.
