So I was looking online to see if I could find a nice unity ritual to add to our ceremony and I came across cords of three strands. The strands symbolizing God, the husband and the wife. I would really like to use this in our ceremony! Has anyone ever done this before? How exactly does it work?

@Mrs_Pacman: We did this in our premarital class at church. The instructors read the Bible verse it was inspired by (I can’t remember the verse, sorry!) and then each couple braided our cord. We also did an activity at the beginning of that class like a 3 legged race. We had 3 strands but tied them around our legs separately and had to race across the room without breaking any of them. Of course they were breaking left and right. At the end of the session we took our braided strand and tied it around for the race and they held up for everyone this time. I doubt you’d do all this at your wedding but it was cool to see! Lol, but I think if your pastor reads a supporting verse you and your husband can tie the cord at the altar to demonstrate.

My Fiance and I are doing this at our wedding although the colors of the “retail” ones are aweful in my opinion. I changed the purple to a green so it went with our colors and could be framed and put in our house.
I love this ceremony. My Fiance is going to hold the ring, I’m braiding, and our officiant will sear them together with a match.

The verse is Ecclesiastes 4:12. And we are planning on doing something of this sort as our unity element! Not sure of the logistics yet, though!
