First off, I’m destined not to have pre-wedding pictures of me in my dress. I didn’t want any while shopping because I had stitches in my head (and Bacitracin in my hair–yuck!) so was looking forward to getting pics at first fitting yesterday. My digital camera (which I use all the time) would not work at all last night. Second fitting is not until 7/22 (my wedding is 7/31!) so I think I’m going to skip them, and miss the fun of posting them for Bees.
Anyway, the dress is great! No regrets at all (which is good because I have no time to change dresses) and it fits nicely (just needs to be shortened a bit). It is a strapless corset back with diagonal ruching (similar cut to many Maggies, but much simpler styling). I was surprised that the seamstress tucked the corset bow into the dress so it didn’t show. She said she prefered it this way because it doesn’t interfere with the lines of the dress. I see what she means: it’s more sophisticated with bow in, but cuter with bow out.
Which way did you (are you) wearing your corset bow? Also, did anyone wear their corset without the modesty panel? My mom is dying for me to wear it without, but I feel more comfortable with it in. (Also, seamstress said she should take in sides of dress to form a wider opening if I’m leaving it out — ka-ching!)

I’m leaving my bow out and not wearing a modesty panel. Not much of my back will show anyway so it’s just a sexy little nod to the fact that there’s a body underneath my enormous dress, I think. And I love the way the bow looks out. The ribbons are so long, pretty, and flowing.

I had the bow tucked in, it looked better, and we used the material for the bustle.
I also kept the modesty panel – I think it looks classier that way. Also, the corset back was very low, and without the modesty panel, my underwear would have been showing… From there, there were two options: I was told to put nude colored underwear… hmmmm no!! or to cut the modesty panel in half and remove just the upper part… I don’t know how that would have turned out…
Anyway, I liked the look of the modesty panel, it’s classic, and classy… the dresses I have seen without it, i didn’t like so much.

I love the look of corset back dresses, but I definitely agree with the seamstress that the laces look better tucked in. It’s mostly just because I personally prefer the sophisticated look over the cute one. On the other hand, you definitely should do what makes YOU feel the most comfortable and what YOU like best!

I have to add – it really really depends on the dress that you have.

I had my bow tucked in and kept the modesty panel. I didnt know it was an option to remove it, but I wouldnt have anyways. I always thought the bow was supposed to be tucked in.

Definitely tuck the bow in and use the modesty panel

I kept the modesty panel in (it wasn’t made to be removable in my dress) and tucked the strings in. They looked silly just tied and sticking out–it didn’t look like it was meant to be worn that way. Same with the panel. Mine was sewed in, so it wouldn’t have looked right. Plus it tied all the way down to my bum–totally not a good look for my dress
Here’s the back of mine!

Everytime I see a bow tucked out I cringe and think “Oh, no! She forgot to tuck it in!” I didn’t even know some people choose to have it out — I think it’s supposed to be hidden, not supposed to show. IMO, it looks unfinished with the bow out.
Regarding the modesty panel, I don’t have any pictures of me with my dress yet, but from the online pics it looks like it goes down to the top of my butt and it would show my underwear if I left it out! Said that, I don’t have a preference either way as long as no underwear is visible 🙂

I love the bow out!! It’s what made me fall in love with the corset back in the first place! I had no idea it can be tucked in.

Bow tucked in, with modesty panel in place. I thought I was showing enough skin already for a church wedding. 🙂

I am tucking it in – the back of my dress is very detailed and it would be very busy if I left it out!

I prefer to see them tucked in. Most people don’t want anything extra in that area to draw attention to, or to add any bulk. lol Bow out looks too young and cutesy, at least to me.

i am tucking my bow in and have a small built-in modesty piece at the lower back area, but i am not using the removable piece that covers up all of the corset.

My opinion is tucked in, it looks cleaner.
