I never really thought about what I want for the back of my dress, but I recently found out that my mom is very pro-button/ anti-corset and my Maid/Matron of Honor is very pro-corset/ anti-button. I think I know what my preference is, but I’m curious…
Do you prefer a corset back or a button back? Or something else entirely?
Is there any advantage or disadvantage to either one (besides how it looks)?

I prefer the look of buttons (though, oddly enough, I have a corset). I think they look more classic and elegant
An advantage to having a corset is that you don’t really have to worry as much about fitting into your dress – is it laced to fit your exact body no worries.

I love the look of buttons – something so old fashioned about them. But … corsets can make a heck of a difference to the overall shape of the dress.

@MissBananaBread: I went in shopping for button button button…and walked out with a corset back. 😉 So, if I may suggest, don’t corner yourself ahead of time. Allow yourself to see it in the moment. It depends on the overall design of the dress sometimes. Good luck! 🙂

I love the buttons! Most of the dresses I tried on were that way, not a whole lot of corsets. Something about the look is so appealing.

That would be awesome- any idea which designers do that?
mrsbruff2b: Thanks! Didn’t see that before.

I love the look of a button back dress. It was on my wish list and I got it! Yay!
Here’s my back. I love it!

I like the look of buttons but I LOVE the shape that a corset gives you. There are some dresses with an inner corset and button closure. You can have the best of both worlds.

My mind is completely un-made-up about this. I was liking the idea of a corset back kind of for the utility of it in accomodating slight size shifts or maybe avoiding some alterations, not necessarily for the look. Then Fiance offhandedly mentioned that he thought a corset back would be odd on me, I think he feels they’re sort of traditional, maybe princess-y, which I am certainly not. So I’m just a big ball of whatever on dress fastening options!
