im looking at dj’s and they all seem crazy high. I’m looking to have one for my wedding which is on a Thursday. Is $500 a good price or still too high? That’s the lowest quote I’ve received for ceremony music, entrance music & reception & mic setup for speeches, etc.

$500 sounds like a steal—at least for the quotes we received when we got married. If you like the DJ and they have good reviews, I’d go for it.

$500 is cheap. i never found any for less than $1000.
but remember, you get what you pay for

$500 is super cheap for ceremony and reception. We couldn’t find any under $1,000 for just the reception.

I agree, $500 is way cheap, but that also depends on where you are. My wedding was in a major city centre so prices for everything were higher than they would have been in suburbia.
This was our DJ package, it cost 1275+tax (normally 1475+ tax, we got a late in season discount):
Our Regular Package includes:
· Access to our online planning tools
· Unlimited access to phone or email support
· Option to meet with the assigned DJ before the event
· 8 Hours of playing time up to 1:00am
· The DJ will arrive to set-up one hour prior to the scheduled start time and be playing music before first guests arrive.
Our DJ MC’d the wedding, handled the mic and sound system, and we had an online portal where we could pick and choose what we wanted played (or not played). Our guests thought we actually KNEW the DJ personally (we didn’t!) and he got rave reviews from everyone in attendance.
Something to consider: our venue required the DJ to have $2 Million in liability insurance in order for him to use their in-house sound system. Be sure to check with your venue to see if they require an insurance certificate from your DJ and find out whether your DJ has insurance!

Wow, $500 sounds like a dream! We’re paying $1500, which was the least expensive I could find for a well-reviewed DJ who has been to our venue before. Our DJ will be there for a total of 5 hours, we’re supplying all of the music, and we’re not using any special lighting or anything else extra. If you find a DJ with good reviews for $500, go for it!

Okay cool, thanks everyone. It’s a small company in Charlotte NC and one of my best friends works with him and has seen/heard his work too so I am going to give it a shot! Thanks for all of your input!
