I was wondering if anyone know the approx. cost to get private transportation from the Cancun Airport to a resort in Playa Del Carmen? I’d much rather do that than have to stop at other resorts to drop people off at… especially after being on a plane for 5.5 hours.

Honestly the bus ride from the airport to playa isn’t bad at all!
We only stopped at about 4 resorts but the trip still only took 40 min and the drive is about 40 min (all the hotels were on the same strip).
I see that you are Canadian – if you are flying Sunwing they tell you about the company and how they will go out of their way to make your stay wonderful (we had sunwing reps on site at our resort and they were wonderful). And they gave us information and told us about excursions and things we could do in and around playa. I am sure if you are going with Air Canada or West Jet they will do something similar.
As far as costs goes. We took a cab into playa from our resort and it took 10 min and cost $13. So you can use that as a guide to judge how much the 40min trip would be.
Just as a final heads up. In mexico they don’t have fare counters. So negotiate your price BEFORE you agree to going with the cab.
Enjoy your holiday!

Thanks for the info! I’m in Calgary so we’ll probably be flying WestJet or Air Canada.
40 minutes to the resort isn’t bad at all! I’ve read stories of it taking people 2 hours from the airport because they had to drop so many people off.
What resort did you stay at? We’re looking at The Royal which is a 3-5 minute walk to 5th Ave.

We stayed at the princess Grand Sunset!
We had such an AMAZING time and I know you will too!
For travel times check out trip advisor and send a message to a reviewer that used air canada or west jet for your resort. They will be able to give you a better idea of how long your bus ride would be!

It’s anywhere from $50 to $90 per person. Your travel agent should be able to upgrade your standard transfers to a private non-stop transfer. It really is a nice way to start your trip. Although sometimes having a beer in the van with all the other travelers can be fun start to the trip too!

I think I paid $40 per person by a shuttle offered by the travel agent.
I considered saving money by risking it and getting a taxi or hiring a shuttle when I got there but then I realized I would rather have a reliable company pick me up.. then an unrealiable means where they forget about me or don’t have room. Plus I thought I heard the taxis there aren’t regulated and the can charge you whatever they want and they usually don’t negotiate because they know your stuck at the airport and you need to get where they are going.
I guess I didn’t want to chance it.
Oh, my shuttle service drove slower than the taxis and other shuttles because we were driving in the rain. We saw a bunch of accidents and he explained to us why accidents happened. I guess I did feel safer because of that.
Oh, yeah, the shuttle ride was about 40 min long and we stop at a few resorts before getting to ours.

When you arrive at the Cancun airport, make sure you go outside to meet your transfer. Those nice people inside the terminal offering you a transfer are actually time share sales people. Run!!!!

They are horrible! We went to Cancun last November and had to deal with them. But we were with a groupd of 13 so we had our transfers booked and waiting for us.
This time it’s just DH and I, so I’d love to do the private transfer instead 🙂
