It’s going to differ by jeweler and the complexity of the design. Your best bet it to go to local jewelers and compare estimates (plus location can make difference in price).

@Miss JoelsBee:  I have not redesigned a ring per se, but I have had stones remounted.  I have found that if you need to buy a head for the stone it runs approx $200 (assuming you already have the band.  I have no experience with having the gold melted and recast, but I would imagine that would be at least comparible of not slightly more than just buying a new setting.

I just had a quote for my grandmother’s original engagement ring. It’s yellow gold and I wanted to recreate it in white gold…so they would be replacing the gold but can keep the yellow gold (I don’t think that mattered though). It was around $700.

I would like to know this too because I’ve been going back and forth about the wedding band that I thought I loved and am now debating if I should do something different.

I’m currently in the process of having my wedding ring re-designed.  It’s a ring wrap and I hate the marquise cut diamonds on it (and I wanted it a little more blingy!) — it’s currently at the jeweler having the 2 marquise diamonds replaced with 4 small round, prong-set diamonds on each side (8 total).  The quote from a local jeweler was $500.  We’ll see what it looks like when I get it back.
