Why do you need to have security at your wedding?

I agree with PP. Is there a reason you need security guards? I’ve never seen this at a wedding before.

I haven’t seen this yet, but I’m beginning to hear of it more due to people coming in and stealing gifts, etc.

Pretty crazy world.

Is it an actual armed guard or just someone to “stand guard”?  And could you just have a “bouncer” more than a guard and pay a bit less.?

Some venues require that you pay for security if you’re having more than a certain number of guests. It’s rather odd, but I saw it once or twice on my venue search.

$50 per person per hour sounds like an awful lot, even for Southern California. How many would you have to hire? As for outfits, it depends– a suit would make them blend in a bit more, a uniform would make them stand out. Do you care either way? If they’re going to be inside the building during your reception, maybe I’d go with the suits, but if they’ll just be outside keeping an eye on things, I wouldn’t care what they were wearing.

hart:  That price sounds about right. I don’t know about security companies, but I know when they hire police officers for overtime for events, it costs the client at least  $50/officer/hour because the department has to pay them overtime. Security companies should be a tad cheaper, but like I said, 50 is the bare minimum for an officer.

I second PP wondering why you need security

Does your venue require security?  Never thought about security needed at a wedding.

hart:  $50 is very standard for security, I never saw anything less at 11 venues. All venues in my area require security (mostly off duty police) if alcohol is being served. Otherwise, it was optional.

I’ve never looked into the cost of security guards, but that quote sounds reasonable to me.

Like PP’s have said, why do you need security? Crazy ex, crazy family, etc?
