Disclaimer….I am cheap, and never wear make up!
A friend/former neighbour runs a spa and does spa stuff and I asked her if she would do our wedding day makeup. I didn’t ask upfront what it would cost, just told her to plan for it if she was willing to give up the Saturday for me.
I figure since I never wear make up she knows me and will keep me feeling me!
She sends me her prices yesterday, $50/person for make up, she is coming to us.
Is this reasonable?
I asked if she did a package deal ($50 just to come to do me is one thing, but I thought if there was more of us she’d give a multiples discount, you know?) and she doesn’t she said she’s already on the low end and doesn’t charge a mobile fee.
The salon where I am getting my hair done could do the makeup, hair and a pedicure for everyone for $590, this is going to be $395 taxes in. The make up was/is going to be part of my gift to the girls. I figure everyone does what they want for hair, come with me, or go to their salon, then we meet for lunch at my Moms and get our make up done through the late morning/early afternoon!
If she wasn’t a friend I would be bailing and getting everyone’s hair and makeup (and toes!) done at the salon, I feel stuck, but I got myself into this and am giving her the business.
If $50 reasonable per person for her to come to us, or is it expensive?

First of all, what kind of make-up is it? Regular or airbrush? How many girls do you have in your wedding party? I have just booked my make-up artist for the wedding day, and she too will come to my house. My package is $160 total and that is airbrush. That also includes false lashes a tube of lip color for touch-ups and my 2 flower girls for free. The she charges my maids $50 a piece including eye lashes if they wish. As far as the hair, I do hair, goes I usually start my updo’s at $50 and up depending on the length of their hair and what they are wanting.

Not airbrush I would assume? Regular likely/for sure.
5 girls in party, plus Mom -7 total.

that’s definitely reasonable. i’m paying $100 for hair and airbrush makeup, plus $25 for travel. bms are $75 each for hair and airbrush makeup.

My quite was $70 for the girl to come to me. I think that’s pretty reasonable!

I’m paying $75 for regular (non-airbrush) makeup. That includes a trial at the MUA’s home, her coming to me on the day of, and false lashes. I think $50 sounds pretty reasonable.

Cool, thanks everyone for some reassurance!

I am a makeup artist and that is extremely cheap. I charge $115 for non-airbrush brides, which includes a lip color, lashes, and complimentary consultation.
Additional people are $75 each. No discount on multiples. The reason? Our kits are EXPENSIVE! And it takes us a good 30 minutes per extra person, and I like to take 45-60 on the bride to make sure she is absolutely perfect!
You want to look beautiful in your pictures. You pay for the experience and talent, honestly. Makeup is very iffy. The wrong product can leave you looking like a ghost in your pictures or worse.
Also, the fact that she doesn’t charge a travel fee is very very generous. I charge .15 for every mile outside 10 miles of my zip code. Remember, this is our career, and we have to make a living. We can’t charge less than our labor/supplies cost.
Just my two cents in there! 🙂

50bucks is pretty cheap, i would def ask for a trial run (since you never wear makeup).
