To buy a wedding dress?  No.

Regardless, no, I’ve never been charged to have measurements taken anywhere.

I got measured for a bridesmaid dress at a local store where I live, and ordered the dress from a store near the bride, and they did not charge me for measurements.

For a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress? No, never been charged for that.

Never heard of it, I’ve never been charged to get my measurements taken by anyone for either bridal or bridesmaid dresses

@Anna10-05-2014:  I suggest the bridesmaids then use some discretion and not mention that they are planning on ordering their dresses elsewhere.

I would trust a tailor over a retail vendor, especially if the girls plan on returning to the tailor of their choice for alterations on the dress if needed. Retail workers who depend on commission may be pissed that their time is being wasted and may not give accurate measurements or measure as carefully.
