We booked our honeymoon through Jetsetvacations.com last week.  We will be going to San Jose, Arenal, Cloud forest and Jaco.  I can’t wait!!  There are many options on their website to make the vacation yours.  We are going at the end of next month so I’ll let you know how it was when we get back.

We just booked our flights today! We were gifted a week-long condo stay in Los Suenos, which is a huge, master-planned resort town located outside Jaco, which we’ve heard is a party surfer town.

I’m so excited because it’s the perfect compromise for us. My fiance wants to be lazy and drink mai tais on the beach all day, but I can’t wait to zipline and hike and go on the monkey tour (!!!).

We went on vacation to CR in August 2009.

We flew into San Jose and took a transportation service to Arenal/La Fortuna. It was a great place to do hanging bridges, hot springs and zip lining. I recommend Ecotermales hot spring…it was great for couples…we felt that most of the other hot springs were “too clubby” for what we wanted. We also opted to stay in La Fortuna versus Arenal as we wanted the nightlife of being in the town versus being on the volcano.

From there we hired a private driver (who I cannot recommend enough!!! Wilson Rojas – look him up on Trip Advisor!) to drive us from La Fortuna to Manuel Antonio for the beach!!! He was like his own tour…he bought us lunch, would pull over and show us animals, crocodiles, etc. and was all around awesome – he has his van fully stocked with beer and snacks and would refill it as much as we needed! He was so awesome so I really hope if you are looking into private transporation for a leg of your trip you choose him…you won’t be disappointed AT ALL!

In Manuel Antonio we stayed at Si Como No. They had an awesome swim-up bar and an adult-only pool. We LOVED it and the view out of our hotel room was stellar. The hotel offers transportation to the beach (5 min away) all the time where you can surf and hike around the national park (Manuel Antonio Nat’l Park) It was so cool. Feel free to PM me for more info!

Do what I was going to do.  I wanted the exact same thing you want.  Fly into LIR, stay at the Westin Playa Conchal (near Tamarindo) all-inclusive resort.  Get your beach activities and spa on.  Then go to Arenal, a couple hours away and stay at the Arenal Nayara (private suites with your own outdoor shower and jacuzzi on your balcony) and do the hiking, volcano, activities.  Fly out of San Jose.  You can do it the other way around too so you can do the action packed stuff and then do the relaxation.  I did a lot of research and that was by the far the best plan as far as doing everything I want and most convenient travel wise and time.

You can always start with a Groupon or Living Social deal. Costa Rica trips are on there all the time.

Check out Ylang Ylang in Montezuma… it’s a bit off the beaten path but once there… it is INCREDIBLE!

If you don’t want to do the whole all inclusive resort thing, The Treehouse Lodge is supposed to be amazing. There are several different houses you can pick from, but they are all adorable and unique. My Fiance and I are in the process of deciding between Treehouse and Oxygen Jungle Villas, which looks absolutely beautiful! I am leaning more towards Oxygen.

Let us know what you decide!

Miss Orchard:  said about hiring a private driver is perfect. I lived in CR for a year and although I did a lot of tourist type things, you should really try to get out and do some off the path things as well. Some of those little towns were so much more amazing. Driving in CR is very hard – taking the buses is difficult if it isn’t a tour type of thing. I would say go for a driver! That is an excellent idea. If you are flying out of San Jose, try not to stay in san jose. I have many of times and it is not the best place for a vacation and being a tourist. My boyfriend and I stayed in alajuela which is 10 mins from the airport. We stayed at the pura vida hotel. It was amazing! It was a great easy night before our flight and the breakfast is amazing. it is just fantastic and not crazy expensive. the owners were excellent especially when we mixed the date up and our little house was taken. they gave us the honeymoon suite for the lower rate. they were very helpful and accommodating! You will not regret CR!
