My very first post! I have a quesiton. My fiance and I have reserved a place in Uvita, Costa Rica for our honeymoon which is in the Southern Pacific area. But now I am starting to think that Guanacaste and the northern area have more to see. We are thinking of 9 nights and I would like to know…
What part of Costa Rica is the best to spend our time? We want beach, relaxation, and wildlife! (and some romance, of course!)
Would appreciate all suggestions!

I love the southern Pacific coast of Costa Rica! It’s much more tropical than Guanacste because the southern peninsula is rainforest and the northern peninsula is deciduous forest. If you have the time for two stops I would also recommend the mountains – Monteverde or Arenal regions.

We just got back from Costa Rica. We went to the Arenal area (activites) for 4 nights and 3 nights in Guanacaste (lounging).
One of the things you’ll want to think about when deciding on where to go is whether you are going to drive from the major airports or take the tiny puddle-jumper planes. (There was no way we were doing the small planes.) Depending on where you go, I’d recommend considering private transfers over renting a car.
While it doesn’t look like it would take too long to get from one place to another, the roads in Costa Rica are windy, usually one-lane, narrow with people walking and biking, and speed limits that aren’t that high. I think it took roughly 2.5 hours to get from the San Jose airport to Arenal (Nayara Hotel, which is awesome). It took roughly 3.5 to get from Arenal to the JW Marriott, which is near Tamarindo.
No matter what, I am sure you will have a blast. Costa Rica was more beautiful than I had expected. We can’t wait to go back.
