Hello bees!! I’m new to the boards, though I’ve been stalking for some time. I’m a semi waiting bee. Me and my boy have been together for almost 9 years (since high school) and are currently shopping for rings (::yay happy dance::)!!! I was wondering if anyone here (or their SO) has purchased an engagement ring from Costco? I know they have some very good quality diamonds and their prices are outstanding for what you get! I was just curious to hear about your experience and if you’re glad you chose to purchase from Costco? Also, if anyone considered Costco and then decided against it I’d like hear your reasoning. Thanks guys!! (Also, Feel free to post your Costco ring porn! haha)

I love Costco and am kind of surprised we didn’t get the ring there. At the time, I had some notion of going to a jeweler and being treated like a grown up (we were 25 or so) and I was comcerned everyone would ask where we got the ring. But they didn’t. I liked the idea of being able to take the ring back to the jeweler for free cleaning every few months.
I think Costco has great quality on most things and the rings in the store are really pretty. If you do go this route, we need to see pics!

I think the Costco rings are beautiful and they are good prices for what they give you, but they are certainly on the pricier side just in terms of money alone. I love looking at them, but most of them aren’t what I’m looking for. I would love to see pics if you decide to go this route. 😀

I love costco for grocery items but I have never even thought to look at thier rings, I think I would be concerned about where the diamond was from. When we started looking in to diamond and rings I became very aware of the horrible things going on in the diamond industry and wanted to make sure that I had a diamond which was found and prepared in the most ethical way possible. Can costco trace where the diamond came from?

I would absolutely have gone with a Costco engagement ring. They claim to source conflict-free diamonds and in my opinion are well priced. A ring to me is just a ring and not only do I not care where it’s from (as in what store it’s from) but no one can tell anyway. If asked, I’d be happy to say where it’s from, as the big jewellery brand hype doesn’t mean much to me. My boyfriend and I are still in the process of choosing a ring, but the only reason we won’t be going with Costco is because we discovered moissanite and are absolutely in love with the stuff.

I read this news story awhile ago about diamonds rings at Costco vs. Tiffany’s http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Moms/story?id=1197202#.TysTOMX-92A

My best friend bought both their wedding bands at Costco, but not her engagement ring. They’ve never had a problem with the Costco rings.

My engagement ring is from Sam’s Club. We went to look there at my mom’s suggestion, and I really loved some of the rings that were in our price range, but I felt a little funny buying the ring from there. So we went to the local jewelers, sat down with someone and saw the options that were available for our budget… and then we got up, got back in the car and went straight back to Sam’s Club to buy my ring. I totally love it, I get lots of compliments on it and any time I tell someone it’s from Sam’s Club, they’re like, “No way.”

One of my boyfriends I had before hubs bought me a fairly dainty RHR diamond ring from Wal-Mart (before the days of Super Wal-Mart, side note, I think Wal-Marts general quality in well, everything, has went down since then). I had no idea he was getting it, and if he hadn’t told me I would have had no idea it came from there. It was absolutely beautiful, and he paid a great price for it. He paid a couple hundred (around two-ish I believe) for it, and when we broke up he let me keep it. I sold it to a local jeweler who gave me $300 store credit for it. Considering they can only scrap out the diamond and reuse the metal elsewhere, it tells me the diamond was of fairly good quality. I’ve never been to a costco, but if it’s safe to buy a diamond from Wal-Mart, I’m sure your safe with costco!
Also, I really wouldn’t worry about people asking you where it came from. It’s not like the commericals where you have to announce to the world that your “kiss began with {Costco}”.

@NurseMarriedToAFarmer: It’s not like the commericals where you have to announce to the world that your “kiss began with {Costco}”.
i laughed out loud at that!
to the OP: no one has EVER asked me where my ring(s) are from. ever. even the snootiest of my coworkers has never even hinted at it… so i doubt anyone will ever ask you. like someone else said earlier, most ppl don’t even realize that you can get diamond jewelry from anywhere other than a “normal” jewelry store!

Thanks for all your responses!! I’m totally on board with buying a ring from Costco. In fact, in my circle of friends I’m kind of known for always getting the best deals, so I would proudly tell anyone who asked that I’m sporting a Costco diamond! What I guess I’m most curious about is more the logistics of the purchase since they don’t offer sizing, cleaning, etc. For those of you who have purchased from Costco, was it a problem getting this done elsewhere/was it expensive?
@middy00: Thanks for the great article!! Thats awesome that the Costco ring appraised for more while the Tiffany one appraised for less!
@KatieBklyn: Congrats! Thats pretty much what happened with me and my SO. If you’re going to spend X amount of money anyway, might as well get the most for it!! What have you done about getting the ring serviced (aka cleaned, sized, repaired) since I assume Sam’s doesn’t offer those services?

I am always eyeing the lovely diamonds at Costco and they seem to be reasonably priced and good quality. It is certainly worth a look.
FYI: I do think that some of their gemstone rings are a tad over priced based on my pre-Christmas research.

The only thing I didn’t like about the Costco rings when I looked at them were that they were all those cluster center stones. Meaning, 4 smaller ones in a square to make it look like one big diamond. That just put me off since it’s not something I wanted.

@AGTbee: Sam’s Club did offer sizing! After we bought the ring, they gave us a receipt and sent the ring away to be sized. It came in less than a week later and fits perfectly. We also purchased a protection plan ($50 for 2 years) which covers any repairs that need to be done due to normal wear and tear as well as replacement if any of the stones fall out. As far as cleaning goes, I’ve just been keeping it clean at home with a soft-bristled brush and dish soap. don’t know what I’ll do if it needs to be re-dipped or re-plated or whatever in the future, but I figure I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it. 🙂

DH got my ring from Costco. And i love it! It comes with all the normal paper work and it appraises for double what he paid for.
He of course asked about the warrenty on it. technically it’s not a warrenty-but it’s the costco warrenty. They said if anything ever happens to it (diamond falls out) just to bring it back and they will take care of it.
I’ve been totally happy with it and we love costco!
