Just curious for bees that have done this/are planning to. How expensive is it really? To be honest I am just dying to go, I don’t need the best of the best hotel wise or something horribly romantic, I just think it would be awesome to say we went and get to see the sights. We’re aiming for Paris, but I would like to do one of those comboniation trips like London/Paris/Rome sort of thing.

@Birdiebaby4: Well our honeymoon is going to be in the Carribean, but when I was researching, I found plane tickets to Rome (at about 7-8 months out) for 1000 per person, with hotel somewhere around 1000 (that’s just an average hotel, if you want something nice, probably a lot more). So add in food/activities, maybe 4,000. You could definatly spend a lot more, that’s just a low estimate if you were being budget friendly. I think Paris is more money and if you go between cities, the eurorail can be pricey.

@swisea01: That’s what we’re looking at around 5 to 6 thousand I think. I read the average honeymoon is about 4500? I figure it’d be worth it to be able to see Europe. We’re planning on using money we recieve from the wedding anyway because our honeymoon most likely will have to be later since my fiance is a paramedic and getting time off is tricky.

Paris is really expensive. I would expect to spend over $1,000/person on airfare. We were able to rent a really nice airbnb for about $135/night. I’d probably budget another $2,000 for food and sightseeing.

@Birdiebaby4: I think 5-6 thousand is a good healthy budget, it might go farther if you stay in one city/country. But if you book far out and you try to find great deals, you could make it work, either way.

@louisianablue: Thats what I noticed, Rome and Italy seemed so much cheaper even!
@swisea01: Thanks! Good to know we’re in a fair ballpark range 🙂

@Birdiebaby4: we went to london and paris for 3 weeks and it cost us about $8000+. the bulk of it was transportation and lodging. flights, trains and rental car.

If you visit Rome, try finding a hotel in the area called trastavere. it’s at a walking distance for all major sights and way cheaper. Also, the area is known for it’s many good, cheap and authentic restaurants. We went on a six day trip to Rome recently and it cost us about €600,- for the apartment. Which was huge btw? About 40 square metres. We’ve spent abput €400 on food, drinks and sight seeing. Rome is the most beautiful city I have ever seen and Paris pales in comparison IMO.
London is crazy expensive. Pounds are not a funny currency. We had a four day trip to London last year which cost is about the same as our trip to Rome, while staying in a tiny room with lousy views.
I haven’t visited Paris recently (I was there about 8 years ago and can honestly not remember what I spent), so I’m not sure about prizes. I also can tell you nothing about plane tickets, since I live in Holland, so for me a plane ticket is about €100,- a head.
Try to steer clear of July and August, prices triple during those months. Also, renting a car is useless in any of those cities (traffic is chaotic and you won’t be able to park).

@LadyIrene: Thanks so much! We’re getting married in August so thanks for the head’s up on it being more expensive (again we were consdiering on taking it later due to fiance’s crazy work schedule so that acutally confirms it)!
@chaz: You are my travel hero! Those sound like really good prices to see all of that!

@chaz: We just booked a similiar trip!
One way flights from Seattle to Barcelona (free with our miles)
4 nights for hotel in Barcelona Spain = $550
7 day Western Mediterranean cruise leaving from Barcelona $1700 for two people. Ports are: Naples Italy, Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy, Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy, Cannes, France, Palma Majorca, Spain and then back to Barcelona.
One way flight from Barcelona to Paris = $215 total for two people.
5 nights for hotel in Paris = $675
One way flight from Paris to Seattle (free with our miles).
Another thing to keep in mind for the budget is the cost for tours (if you plan on doing any) and the cost to visit different sites that you want to see, good luck!

@Birdiebaby4: we are budgeting around 10,000 including flights and hotels. That’s just a rough number though, we might spend more lol. We booked a cruise from Rome to Barcelona already and that was just about 3k for the 2 of us.

We spent not quite $15k for not quite 3 weeks in Europe. Germany, Netherlands, Italy mostly – with a side trip to Monaco (that was spendy). We didn’t pay more than 60-150 Euro for a hotel/B&B except for Monaco. Food was really expensive, but we went to eat Italian, so eat and drink we did. $100US easy for a decent dinner at a not fancy place.

I’m not married, but my best friend and her husband honeymooned in Paris last month for about 10 days. I know she paid around 800 round trip for each ticket, flying out of Boston and into Paris. They rented an apartment while they were there to save on hotel costs. There are a few sites where people put up their apartments for others to rent out- it usually ends up being cheaper than renting a hotel room. That ended up costing them about $1000 for the whole 9 days. Good luck planning!

We’ve booked 19 days in 4 countries in Europe for our belated honeymoon this summer (just on our own/no travel agent). All the travel costs (flights, trains, lodging) are paid for, and it added up to around $4500. We’ve budgeted about $7000 for the whole trip, so we have about $2500 left for daily expenses like food and tours. I can’r wait!
