Today, while innocently browsing at the mall, I came accross a jewlery store have a MASSIVE sale (I’m talking 75% OFF kinda massive!). I tried on this band, originally priced $2100 plus tax (15% in Qc- yikes) and with the sale and some haggling, got it down to $500 tax IN. It’s 10 diamonds, 20 points, and would come in a white gold 14kt setting.
My engagement ring was my grandmother’s, and because it’s an antique, it has such a unique design that it does not sit flush on any band. One jeweler suggested making a custom band that would have a small part carved out so it could sit flush, but I don’t want it to look like an enhancer.
Another had suggested going with a plain white gold band, no diamonds. But a girl needs a little bling in her life! Plus, fiance didn’t get to purchase a ring, so he’s really looking forward to buying me some diamonds :P.
I think this band has enough sparkle without overpowering my engagement ring.
What does everybody think, honestly?
Am I getting a good deal or should I wait?
My wedding is still a year away so it’s not like I’m in a rush, but if it’s a good bargain, I would be willing to jump!

I like the band…but i dont think it matches your ring very well. I think a plain band would look better. I dont really know of a antique band? But if you find one that would be awesome!

The band is very pretty and its a great price. It doesn’t completely match your ring, but that doesn’t really matter and your e-ring is so unique (and gorgeous by the way) that it’ll be hard to match it without having a custom ring designed. I say if you love it go for it.

All that matters to you is if you like it! The deal seems still a bit high. Hubby got my anniversary and wedding bands .75 15diamonds 14k gold for less then that sale price each. Now they are $1300 each at the same store. I dont think you are getting a deal.

Love that it’s not matchy-matchy! I am also a fan of both rings not sitting flush. Great deal and great set!

I love your e-ring by itself, and the wedding band by itself is really pretty. It doesn’t overpower the e-ring, but I agree with the others that it doesn’t eally match. Then again, since it is so unique, it’s going to be difficult to match with anything.
It doesn’t sound like you love it either, but that you are trying to talk yourself into it because of the price. While I love a good deal as much as the next girl, this is kind of the one thing that I didn’t let my sense of wanting to get the best deal get the best of me! You are going to wear it forever, AND your Fiance wants to get you something since he didn’t get to purchase diamonds for you yet. I say since you have time until you get married, keep looking for the one 🙂
What about a design that has more of an antique feel to it? Not such a clean edge as the wedding band you have there.
I think something like these would compliment your e-ring and not overpower it, still have sparkle, but still match:

@Miss Care Bear: Honestly I don’t think that’s a good price for the band. A lot of jewelry stores up the price of things dramatically and then have a “crazy” sale and make you think you are getting a good deal when you’re not. I personally would prefer a plain band if I had a ring like yours.. BUT it’s not my ring so if you love the band and you think it’s a good deal then who cares what anyone thinks?

@JustLove25: Ditto. I have seen those prices around a lot. I think that is the going rate for those bands of that same carat weight and 14k gold. I think they way overpriced it to begin with. Other than that is is a pretty ring. Don’t let them push you into thinking it’s a GREAT deal when it’s just soso.

Thank you everyone for your honest replies!
After reading the comments, I decided to hold out for something better 🙂
I shouldn’t impulse-buy something that’s going on my finger forever! So thank you everyone for your advice, and I shall continue looking.
I’m also thinking that USA prices may be lower than Canadian, so a little shopping trip South of the Border may be in order!

i am canadian too. definitely shopping cross border is cheaper. some places ship to can for a tiny bit more though. or do what i did for a while – rent a mailbox in the usa and get stuff shipped there.
how far are you from the usa border?

@lilsweetie: Not very far at all. About an hour from Vermont!
