First, very few females actually don’t have hair down there. I feel like your friends might be jerks. There are certain women that tend to be less hairy, but rarely does that apply to the bikini region. They probably just manage the hair growth well.

Second, get an ultrasound of your ovaries to be sure. If they look like pine cones, then you will have a better idea than just blood work and high testosterone levels alone. However, if all you have is hair and your periods are regular, skin is clear, and you are not overweight, PCOS is probably a zebra diagnosis.

Before I was diagnosed, I had very thick, dark hair on my mustache and chin and body, thinning head hair, gaping facial sores, weight fluctuations around 25-30 pounds (at 5 feet tall, that was a huge deal) and exceedingly irregular periods. After the ultrasound came back with bunches of cysts, my doctors (endocrinologist and gynecologist) worked together to get me on a cocktail of birth control, Spironolactone and Metformin. They also mentioned an informal, unscientific sign is darkened skin/shadowing in the armpits, which I have. While weight is still a problem, the other symptoms are well-managed.
